i think when you find somewhere you love and its so so cheap once your there its hard to grit your teeth & make the break & go somewhere new........we've travelled extensively and most places ive been id love to go back (places like all of africa, bali, langkawi, borneo, thailand, all of australia - although i was living there at the time) but to chill out from my present life in london,we love goa..... and from someone who used to scoff at people who went back to the same place year after year and stayed in the same hotel time after time........i find myself doing the same thing now,but maybe thats old age............if the hankering for goa again has got you hooked then no you definately arent mad as you'd probably be comparing anywhere you went with it, but saying that its good to go to new places as well & if you'd never gone to goa the first time you'd never have known what you were missing!!!!!
The only thing that would disencourage me to visit Goa would be huge price increases of flights - then again I would then have to lose my 2 week break at the end of the year to a European resort to cover my holiday cost to Goa.
Millym has thrown up a lot of destinations there that I would love to go see but with work commitments and the stupid way we have to take our holidays it doesnt seem possible - early retirement is what I am hoping for,so fingers crossed pensions keep on picking up and house prices dont drop !! would be great to sell up and go round the world.
P.S It was like Goa in our house onThursday - we had 4 power breaks and then it was off for 3 hours,so sent out for an Indian take away and sat round a candle talking about our next trip - roll on March, sheer bliss !!
We found that we had many Goan friends over the years but it depends how you interpret the word friends? For us Goa is now a place that we would not consider as a holiday destination. I know its horses for courses
but we do not like to be asked for sunbed every 10 yards while we are trying to have a walk down the beach. Also we have noticed on this forum that people are criticising others who they think are paying over the odds for taxis etc. We also found this in 1996 but the next bunch of tourists that comes in will have there own values and then prices wil go up again. We have found thet no matter how much that you love Goa one day it will change and you will go somewhere else. We used to love Goa and then blamed the tourists who came there after 1995 for spoiling it for us. We have now been reading the posts and maybe now the blame on increased prices is being blamed on the new tourists. Maybe a never ending circle?
By the way we have now gone on to Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand and we are having wonderfull holidays but please do not follow us as we are enjoying the peace. BC
I don't know if we will go back again after that as we like exploring different places but we loved something about Goa. We've probably talked about the Goa holiday more than the others we have been on. Still not quite sure what it was that we loved so much!
Blondepuff I think Goa is just one of those places that you cant explain why you love it so much. I know the usual stuff everyone mentions - nice people, climate, prices etc but there is just something else magical about it.
