We are flying out to Velavaru island on 29 1 06 and we wondered if anyone has been there recently and if so your comments would be greatly appreciated.

We're off there in less than 3 weeks. Will post a short review when we get back. It will be a short review as it is a tiny island and there's not much to do there except eat, drink, dive, snorkel, drink, sunbathe, watch the sunset, rest, drink, watch the baby black tip sharks swim along the shore in the evening... you get the idea.

We were there last December and loved it. Away from everything. Paradise. Basically the only entertainment is crab racing once a week (if they can find jockeys small enough )

Hi Everest thanks for that it sounds like my idea of heaven.We have been to the Maldives twice before but larger islands.We had booked for velavaru last january but as you are no doubt aware it was closed for some time as a result of the tsunami.Looking forward to your review.Modena

Hi folks my stepson flew out to velavaru on sunday night arriving monday and the sun was shining.however he has not seen the sun since very cloudy and rainy.

Last December we had 6 days of rain. Let's hope it clears up soon (within the next 11 days will do fine)

If anyone is interested, Velavaru is now included on Google Earth as high-res images.
