If they are the ones I am thinking of they are about 10 mins walk from the beach.Cannot tell you anything about them as we have never stopped there .But can tell you Praia do Vau is a lovely place but only small just a few restaurants and bars.But within walking distance of Rocha or there is a bus and taxis are very reasonable both to go into Rocha or Alvor.
If you want an apartment right by the beach I can recommend the Coral do Vau Apartments which you can book through Style Holidays or the Jardim do Vau which you can book through Algarve Select you can also book them through Booking.com hope this is of some help

I have stayed at the Estrella on a number of occassions. I find it to be a well run hotel, in a quieter area but only 10 mins by taxi from both Praia da Rocha and Alvor - its an ideal base.
The hotel is always well maintained, the staff are friendly and helpful and the pools/bars are fine.
It is next to a golf course and is ideal for golfers. I am actually staying at the Estrella in April witha golfing party.
