Hi, I know you will get loads of moans about Paphos airport but for the past 2 years we have came in/out of Paphos and I personally prefer it to the madness they call Larnaca.

Having said that, we arrive and depart around 1/2am so it is very quiet. We are rather strange in prefering night flights ( all the girning 'little darlings' are asleep ), and everyones bladder appears to be blocked as there are no toilet patrols either

It is a fair old drive to Protaras, (around 2 hours I would think) but an easy one as the roads are great. If you intend hiring a car, which would be the cheapest option, tell them you need it to be waiting for you at the airport. I wouldn't let them charge any extra for this as they are desperately quiet just now.

Paphos airport to Protaras is around 115miles, nearly all (quiet) motorway, and driveable in about 2 hours as Jinty says.

Taxi would be somewhere around £100 sterling each way.

When are you going ?

we had 3 weeks in paphos in december (including xmas) ordered a small car, got a new ford fiesta with air con, collected from airport and dropped off back there too for UK £152, including CDW and full insurance and if I returned it full of petrol I got a refund of the petrol supplied (paid in addition). All booked in the Uk and car provided was from a worldwide known rental compnay. Excellent value compared to taxi's. Wont advertise the company on the forum but happy to supply if you PM me.

Thanks for the information. I forgot to say it will be my first visit to cyprus and I am planning on the last two weeks in August. From your replies it looks like hire car would be the best option. Another option would be to stay at a resort nearer the airport. Any suggestions ?

Pafos airport serves the whole of the western end of CY it is currently being upgraded and for most part very chaotic most of the time with little to no parking of any kind, it is a little far to use for the Eastern side of CY but when completed will or should be of a very high ''French run'' standard, due to finish early 2008

Another option would be to stay at a resort nearer the airport

...or go to the same resort, but fly into the nearest airport, which is Larnaca. Taxi from there to Protaras is about CYP£25.
