Blimpy76,

I was in Sidari three years ago and thought the beaches in the area were very nice. Nothing to worry about. I don't know if its changed since then but if the main beach has gone downhill theres smaller coves in the Canal D'Amour area and a fantastic beach along the coast called Sunset Beach which is definately worth a visit.

As for the nights in Sidari they can be as lively or as quiet as you want.

We visited Sidari about 2 or 3 years ago at the age of 64/65 we love Greece and like traditionally Greek places which we did not find in Sidari we were not at the Canel De Mar end and only found one Greek restaurant which was run by a Greek and the staff were Greek, We have friends who live in Corfu who came to see us (They had once owned a Greek restaurant in Manchester) He was suprised to find a Greek restaurant which is called Salt and Pepper that was so good in Sidari, it's a place they never visit,
We found the main street very narrow and quite dangerous, the beach dirty and smelly, most of the restaurants were Greek owned but run by English staff, serving English food, like fish chips and mushy peas pukker pies, Big screen TV showing coronation Street. East Enders, and Emeradale every night or maybe football, had visited Sidari 23 years years earlier when it was really Greek and was lovely, but yes now I would say is an 18/30 resort.

Well where do i start!
We have been to Sidari for the past 2 years, i thought it was ok my partner not two keen the second time around. If you are a beach lover then you will be disapointed as its not up to much at all. There are lots of nice restaurants and some arnt to good. We found the best ones where the village, olympic, and a really nice mexican but i carnt remember what it was called (it is up above a pub)
Where are you going to be staying?

Hi Blimpy76
We have been to Greece about 10 times and Sidari is the only place we would not return to. Don't know your ages though. We were late 40s. As previous posters have said the main street is narrow and dangerous. Sidari is ok if you like noisy bars, pub quiz, karaoke and sky sports. Although the beach was very shallow I was not confident about the cleanliness. The Greek people as always are welcoming and friendly but there are a lot of Brits.
If you go on the Corfu forum http://www.agni.gr you will be able to find out more. Personally I like Corfu but think there are nicer resorts. It all depends what kind of holiday you are looking for.

Hi Blimpy 76
We went to Sidari last year, both my husband and I are in our fifties, but with throughly enjoyed it, we don't sit on the beach much so that never bothered us but we do like a bit of entertainment at night and we got this in Sidari. The best resturant there is The three little pigs, the waiters even do a bit of greek dancing for you during the evening, We loved it and would go back again.

Hi my wife and i have been to sidari 6 times now and going back this year again. The beach is not as good as it use to be but still OK not as bad as some people make out. It is nothing like Blackpool. The people are very friendly and there is a lot of places to eat and drink. What hotel/apartments are you going to. Have fun. Andy

Hi, we went to Sidari last year and we had a lovely time. I do however agree with most of the comments already made. We were disappointed with the beach, and the main street was narrow and we had to constantly watch the children as traffic was bad. BUT we had a great time. Lots of lovely welcoming restaurants, the Calypso & Mikeys we visited on more than one occasion. It was busy at nights so we used to go there until later in the evening and then finish back at where we were staying which was the Alexis with the Zoom bar. We did find that we spent a great deal of time around where we were staying as it had a great little pool and didn't care much for the beach which was a little dirty and the sea wasn't clear which was what we did expect when visiting Corfu.

Hi :D

Well we are off to Sidari for the 4th time in very early October 8) and we cannot wait :!:

Even though I hear and read alot of bad stuff about the place :( , I personally have never had a bad experience :D . As for the beaches, there are some really lovely ones down off canal d'mour and they are never that busy. We had real fun there last year.

Even in early October it is warm enough to swim in the sea and I still got a nice tan. We had one day of rain in the 2 weeks we were there :!:

Maybe we are easy going but we just make the most of our time away knowing that it could be another year before we do it again (unless we win the lottery and move out there :o )

tipsyletti, as I've just put on another post about Corfu, we went to Sidari a few years ago and had a really good holiday but its not high on my list of places to return to... it just wasn't quite quiet or loud enough.. it was sort of halfway between which didn't seem to work for us... Maybe its changed a bit since then (and maybe I'm getting old, pass me my pipe and slippers.. .lol )

We're in our 30's and just come back from Sidari. (went 5 years ago too!). As I come from Blackpool, I would disagree with those that think it's similar. There are a lot of bars showing the latest films, soaps and Karaoke but there are those that don't as well. Your choice! The water in Sidari itself isn't as clear as you'd expect but certainly able to swim in it - as long as you're clear of the canal. That can smell a bit. The resort itself is quite small and the resaurants are quite good, Pancho's Villa (Mexican), Olympic (Greek) and The Three Brother's Hotel (Greek and open to non-residents) are three which I would try. The Greek dancing in 'Olympic' is good, quite a mini show in fact. The Three Little Pigs restaurant also has a great Greek night. The nightlife can be as busy or relaxed as you want - just ignore the flower sellers and the touts outside the bars and restaurants vying for your business - go where YOU want to! There are watersports in the resort but the trips that are available are what you need to look at really. Plenty of cruises, Aqualand (superb!) coach trips, they're all available. Trips to Albania, Kassiopi (fishing village). The water and caves in Paleokastritsa are breathtaking if you get the chance to go. 'Sunset Beach' is a must for sightseers accesible easily by bicycle, moped or car. We walked a couple of times but it is a jaunt! Overall - we think a really chilled place to stay and the life is certainly there if you want it. Couple of tips - Beware the roads (not good roads, worse drivers), take your sun cream, take your mozzie spray. We've enjoyed it both times and I think there is something there for all.

At the end of the day, your holiday is what you make it and all about personal preferences. 8)
I, like anyone can only advise as I find it.
As you say askycy, Sidari is not for everyone :P I went to Majorca once and hated it, yet thousands return every year :!: So what went wrong for me :?: There are also a couple of Greek Islands which I am not that eager to re-visit.

I do however, hear support for Sidari as well as those who did not like it
I think unless you try it yourself, you would never know :?: :?

So askcy, I don't think its quite time for slippers and pipe yet, not at least until you find somewhere you are comfortable enough to stay. Saying that, mybe it is definately time for my slippers, being female, not sure about a pipe though
