Jxk8... you have obviously never listened to Buddha Bar and Cafe Del Mar then... it's the least intrusive music you could find!

Of course there is a need for a law to control when music can be played, as tourism in Goa developed without any real planning, so there are nightclubs in residential areas, bars next to schools etc. And, as others have mentioned many Goans seem to think that good music must be loud music. But everyone agress that 10 o'clock is too early to finish.

You have hit the nail on the head there Phil, in particular the louder it is played the better it sounds lol, I remember the millenium party in Vagator, I think they had something like 80,000 watts of amps and speakers, enough for Glastonbury no doubt

Regardless of what kind of music is played in the bars and shacks, common sense should be applied from the owners and Police. Dave i`m sure you will find something to suit your own music tastes or try find something a little more different, if you ask around the locals they could probably tell you were they play Indian music or something similar, you may get lucky as I have on a few occasions and see a live group playing sittars (sp) and tabla drums (beautiful sound). Your idea of holiday hell is the same as everyones, fortunately it is not endemic in Goa as yet.

Neil if you visit Vagator try the 9 bar at sunset, the music is played as a backdrop to the setting of the sun and should have a nice ambience to it if done correctly and should feel like a spiritual ritual, I know I sound like a hippy You would most probably enjoy Psy dub which is a lot more chilled out with a nice heavy slow reggae beat, usually Israeli`s play this in their bars if you come across any, also ask the cd sellers on the beach for `shanti shanti` stuff and psy dub, give that a try, you never know

Having recently returned and heard the new Vanilla club still going strong at 4 in the morning, and the noise affecting half of Candolim. It is time that something was done to curb the racket. I do agree that 2200 hours is a bit early and feel that maybe 2300 hours would be a compromise. Good news about the football finishing at 10 though.

A Club in Candolim!!!! Another area of Goa marked off my places not to go back to then.

I was shocked to see some sort of "Club" opened in Arpora (Not Cubana) last year, looked empty and more to the point who passed the planning on that, looked totally out of character with the surroundings! You could see it lit up from the Marina D'.

Yeah I remember that place in Arpora. It didn't affect my holiday as I could never hear it. I stayed in the Renton and it was nice and quiet there.

What i like about Goa is you can have loud or quiet it just depends where you wanna spend your time.

My sister came back last week and she said the big screens have gone from the sportsbar (J28 I think) on the beach Road in Candolim. They were there at the beginning of December. Is this because of the noise polution

If you really want music after 10 pm then the place to go is the north end of Morjim beach. Our Russian amigos have established a friendly `entente' with the local authorities and as a consequence the music continues 24/7. Yesm swingers,music by Mikhael around zee clock.
Free movies too, on outdoor screens half the size of a tennis court,until the last viewer drops.... Bahksheeeeeeeesh..

I have just returned from Goa where often live entertainment was forced to cease at 10pm.

When many don't go out to eat until 8pm - 10pm seems harsh and could affect the number of people who return next year.

I feel midnight is a more acceptable time as we will then have time for a drink and see some entertainment after our evening meal.

What are other HT's views is 10pm too early?

Clubs which have soundproofed areas (such as Club Cubana and Titos) are allowed to stay open.

As usual in Goa, the "10 o clock rule" is not being enforced with any kind of consistency - for example last Saturday the music was turned off at Ingos market on the dot at 10 o clock, whilst the music at Mackie's market was still going striong several hours later.

But the cops are regularly doing the rounds of the bars and restaurants not long after 10 telling the owners to switch the music off. If they fail to comply their equipment is confiscated.

Nobody has any idea how long the crackdown will continue, but it does look increasingly like it might be here to stay. I guess people are going to have to get used to going out (and coming home) earlier.

Maybe the Goan government should read this thread and similar ones on other forums to help them draw a suitable conclusion to the current situation. Maybe the answer is a compromise, ie a 10 til midnight LOW NOISE law and a midnight OFF law ......could be the answer???

They tried something similar in Thailand- I think it lasted a couple of weeks at most

we actually had to move rooms as the bar up to roa from the hotel was playing music at full blast until 6am- and there was never anyone in it!!!!
