Its a long journey by bus and I think you would have to change. Its offered as an organised two day trip with an overnight stay in a hotel by all tour operators. If you want to do it yourself then ideally you want to be staying up around Kusadsai.

Are you thinking of the warm pools in the calcium deposits? Thats Pamukale, its a stop off on the way to Ephesus

sueb,
as far as I cam remember Ephesus is also available as a 1 day trip , but it has to a long time on the coach and very tiring.
Don't know about the service buses.
the 2 day trip to ephesus and pammukale is well worth doing , apart from the obligatory stop at the carpet factory on the way back, but if you haven't been to a carpet factory before at least this one shows a bit about the carpets before thay try to sell them to you
Cant help with any idea on the costs as its about 4 years since we did it

Sueb,

We went on the 1 day trip from Icmeler to Ephesus in September, picking up in Marmaris on the way and it was about 3.5 hours each way by coach. Its around 300km (200 miles) away. The coach journey was a bit of a pain but it's a good opertunity to see a bit of the real Turkey rather than just the resorts. Some of the scenery is excellent. Every time I've been to Turkey, the flights and transfers have always been in the dark so it was nice to see what Turkey was like in the light! Its a long day, but well worth it.

We were picked up from our hotel in Icmeler at 0630, just as the sun was coming over the horizon! We stopped off for breakfast about 45 mins out of Marmaris and we reached Ephesus for about 11am. We stayed in Ephesus until 1330, had lunch then stopped off at Virgin Mary's house and we were back in Icmeler for about 2030.

I am going to marmaris for a week in may. I have always wanted to visit ephesus. Could anyone tell me how far is ephesus from marmaris, the cost involved, and is it worth going ? Thanks

sueo,

My post above will answer most of your questions. I can't remember how much it was now, £30-40 each or something like that including all your entrance fees. That was booked from the rep at the hotel.

we hired a car and drove to ephesus from bodrum,i think it was 3 hrs drive, we stopped at kusadasi for b/fast. got to ephesus and parked. i have to laugh now but the parking guy walked over to us and said we take you by car up to the entrance ,it is free and we stop and show you on the way our turkish leather goods ,then we take you and show you the carpets being made, and then we take you somewhere else , and then we drop you at the entrance. i was fed up after driving 3 hrs we just wanted to go in efes ,as they call it,anyway after the carpet visit i said to the turk drvr just take us to the entrance we have not got time for any more visits as we had to be back in bodrum by 5.30 to go to the bank.when he dropped us at last at entrance it was very cheap to go in. we made our way down through efes to a exit gate and there was our car and we discovered that is also an entrance gate . we could have got out of our car as soon as we got there and gone straight in. so i know in future thwy basically kidnapped us as we did not know the system ,but they wont do it again , so if you go on a coach you have no choice, but if you drive in a hire car and dont want to be kidnapped ,just say no thanks we are going in to efes where we are now.
