hi snowflake, myself and my partner holidayed in alikanas last year, we are both late twentys but do not enjoy the club scene etc. we had the best time in the resort. your daughters will really enjoy themselves, although i promise you they will probably doubt it at first. alikanas looks very quiet when you first arrive, and compared to other resorts, it kind of stays that way to a point. however, once the sun go's down the bars and restaurants provide a fab atmosphear which is enjoyable for any age group. there is a holiday buzz in the air rather than noise.saying that, we had some nights where we really felt we had gone back ten years in our lives, and we loved it! there are loads of lively bars to visit, they will probably find their own favourite places, but i would really recommend the 'DNA' BAR, and ''jammin''-although tell your girls to be wary of the young mancunian behind the bar, he is a very cheeky chappy and likes the ladies- even the attached ones! both are great late night music bars with a cocktail list (including non-alcoholic varieties) as long as the island itself! every place is so friendly and we felt so safe walking around the resort, even into the early hours. we met a few people whilst we were out there, and there were plenty of older children (16-20) with their parents who really seemed to be enjoying themselves. i am sure your daughters will find plenty to do and you do not even need to be worried about when they venture off on their own, it really is a safe, friendly resort. they will meet loads of people and i am sure they will enjoy their hol as much as you. i think alikanas is one of the few resorts we have visited which is a genuine ''loved by all'' place. it is suitable for everyone and you really can make it what you want. we ate (and drank) out every night in the resort and had some of the best food we have ever tasted in greece, the bars will stay open for as long as they have custom but at the end of the evening everyone quietly strolls back to their apartment for a well earned sleep before the dry mouth kicks in as the sun rises on another beautiful day...it's a lovely place to spend your hols whatever your age, i promise your daughters will have a really good time

Hi greek kitty. You've put my mind at rest! From what you say it sounds like there's a bit more going on than I first thought. Will look out for the places you've suggested and get off to a good start!!
Can you give me any info. on what the transport links are like to other resorts?
Thanks for your help. :thanks

this all depends where you are staying in alikanas. there are two parts to the resort. alikanas proper, which is a quiet little resort immediately behind alikanas beach with a couple of bars and tavernas but certainly no discos. this is, in my opinion, one of the pleasanter places to stay on the island.

there is also a new place which has sprung up in the last few years, calling itself alikanas but actually it isnt. this is the area around the crossroads on the road to alikes. this has a few more bars and taveras. it isnt as nice as alikanas proper but a bit of a soulless resort.

if your daughters want discos/bars/clubs, the much bigger resort of Alikes is very close - about twenty minutes walk away or a short taxi ride. there are bars/clubs/shops there and i am sure your daughters will find plenty to busy themselves with. the big 'party' resort on the island (laganas) is quite a way away but in any case, i would be quite worried about my daughters going there!

yes, forgot to mention alykes, they will enjoy having the option between the 2. transport comes in various shapes and forms. there are a good few little local companies where you can hire cars, scooters and bikes if independance is your thing, and these tend to be a bit cheaper than the rates the rep will offer you. taxis are cheap but as with anywhere in the world, i would ask your daughters to be sure they are comfortable before using them alone, especially if they visit other resorts-not to say i have ever heard of anything untoward-it's just something i think all us girlies need to consider wherever we are. if you are feeling like a non-motorised journey (!) you will notice many horses and carriages offering their services during the evening, some are free depending on where you are going (and where you are spending!) personally we never used them as it is easier to walk and i felt slightly sorry for the poor Mr. Eds who were doing all the leg work. buses run all over the island and you can get timetables and route info from your rep and hotel manager/owner, there are loads of trips if you want to get around and see a bit of scenery, but again the little local set ups will give you better value than your rep most of the time. if you do hire a car, or even a scooter if you are in the mood for the wind blowing threw your hair (and a very numb bum) the island is such a size that as long as you have a good map it is easy to get around and see a couple of different resorts and beaches, and the roads are really not that bad to drive on-apart from when we went down a one way mountine road and nearly flew home as cargo thanks to a german tour bus

Alikanas has a good amount of bars and taveras and is not disimilar to Pefkos in Rhodes in many ways. It is about the same tempo and has a couple of lively bars aswell.

Alikes is quite close and also has a similar amount to do. I think they'll love it.

Thank you all for your comments. It does sound like there will be enough to do. Some reports I read made it sound deserted but that doesn't seem to be the case. We really liked Pefkos. Looking forward to seeing it for myself now!! :tup
