Hi I am looking to book a holiday in olu deniz, i have never been to turkey and dont know whether to go alll inc or b&b .
What is the prices of drinks and food in turkey.
Any advice
Welcome to the forums. Firstly you will not regret picking Turkey as your holiday destination. Prices vary in the resorts and it is difficult to give exact prices. I tend to think that when the good lady and I go for a meal with wine we pay much the same as back home. That said, there are many places where you can get excellent food much cheaper. We tend to stick to the larger more established restaurants. All inc versus b&b raises it's head quite a bit on the forums. In my opinion it's a personal thing, some families with kids like all inc, we always go self catering as the variety of restaurants is just too good to miss. The 'going out for dinner' sort of thing makes our holiday. As you are new to the forums you may not be aware of the search facility at the top of the page, use this and many of your questions will be answered.

Welcome, I can only give you last years prices as a rough guide but i don't expect the prices to change dramtically this year.
Local beer ( efes ) like lager but i find it gassy 3.5 to 4.0 YTL
Local spirits, raki, gin, vodka, etc around 7 YTL
imported beers Guiness etc around 7 YTL
cola, orange, etc 2.5 YTL
meals vary in prices, but generally soups are about 2.5 YTL, Fish and chips about £5.00... chicken or steak meals around the £7.00 region.
I don't know the exchange rate at ther moment, but I think last year it was around 2.9 YTL to the £
There does appear to be some good all inclusive deals going around but make sure you do your homework first, as in most places that offer this deal, such things as kids ice cream is limited, the food would probably be local dishes and certainly the drinks are local ones, also should you want to go out for a nights entertainment to Hisaronu ( which is the lively hotspot ) or somewhere you will have to add this spending money into your budget.
Cheers Kev
Hi We stayed at Sun Club City in Olu Deniz All Inclusive and the food is excellent.
if you just want to go to a hotel..go Aİ
..and miss out on a lot of what this country is about.
sometimes if you get a good all inc deal and it works out a fair bit less than a bb or sc when you have worked out your approx daily spend, then you could always go out the odd time, thats what we have done, quite a few of the all incs ive been on have only been around 300-500 for 2 weeks for our family more than say bb ,sc, and there is no way i could feed, have snacks and drinks for that little, so ive used the all inc hotel mainly but still eaten out quite a few times ,when ive worked out we have had our monies worth. the entertainment is usually better in all incs too especially for children. it really boils down to what suits your family, everyone prefers different things, i visit turkey a few times a year and do both sc and all inc
But we still eat and drink out also.
Like Ellie we have never really paid expensive for all inc so when that happens you can afford to eat and drink out
We have had some really good ones and also poor ones but you just make the most of it.
If you want AI and can get a good price on it go to the Belcekic Beach hotel in Olu Deniz. It's a brilliant hotel & the setting is superb. They have built the restaurant on the side of the hotel so as you eat you are looking up at the mountain one way or the sea the other.
Just because you go AI there is nothing to stop you eating out as well and going on trips, they don't lock you in the hotel or anything as people would have you beleive. The other alternative is have your meal and then go into Olu D for a few hours for drinks and coffee, a couple of evenings we went into Fethyie which is nice for an evening as well.
Good Luck, Hope you get something to suit.
Hi squibbo . I would certainly echo what everyone else has said here. We have stayed in olu twice and the good thing is whatever board you decide to stay at ,it is a fabulous place. if you decide B+B there is plenty of choice of places to eat, although Olu is not the cheapest place in turkey to do so. If you decide on A/I the good news again is that your spoilt for choice in good quaility a/is actually in the town. . we have stayed at sun city and are staying at the Belcekiz beach this year (only available through thomson/portland) both on an A/i basis . there is also Olu deniz beach resort. All get good reviews if you check on the review section of this site.
Personally I think you are missing out on atmosphere, good food, a chance to make new friends and much more by going all inclusive. You can only get the feel of a place and to get to look around when you are B&B. Only did the hotel food once and that was enough. Also when you are all inclusive you tend to stay in the hotel much more and never to mix with the locals.
I am just expressing my own opinion, having done the hotel once and never to do it again!!!!
Have a great holiday whatever you decide!
we have been AI for the past 4 years but thats mainly because the kids dont want to leave the hotel,so if we are stuck there we might as well be AI.We do manage to get them out a few times and it still works out cheaper than self catering because in an apartment they charge you for under occupancey ,where as in a hotel they charge you just for 2 kids and 2 adults.Last year we stayed in olu in club sun city.... it was £2200 all in.We would have paid almost that just for self catering, then food and drink on top
We are going to Bodrum in June, eating out again. But in the future, I think we will be looking at the A/I options too!
Why don't you book it yourself on internet.
We are four adults and one teenager
We booked apartments for July 16 through Carol at icmelertravelcentre
2 apartments for two weeks - £350 each (per apartment not per person)
Flights through First Choice from Newcastle - Four Adults @ £239 One teenager @ £219
Private transfer, again through Carol - £90 return
This works out at £393 pp for two weeks!!!!
I have looked into DIY but even at the prices you have quoted thats £1350 for four of us and in the school hols the flights would be more then there is spending money on top..... we would spend between £1500 and £2000 if we went self catering,so for us at the mo AI works out cheaper
Could have even done it myself from Newcastle for £362 per person in 2 apartments
Slightly more expensive from Edinburgh at £417 per person.

when i went to turkey 3 years ago to buy a new apt, i dont remember how, but i ended up staying at hotel cerme turgetreis, it was right on the beach with a lovely pool and you could step out of the pool go down some steps and you was on the beach. it was so cheap ,about £20 a night inc b/fast. they have a bar by the pool and entertainment most evenings , and they came and picked me up from the a/port for free ,and took me back. mostly english people stay there. that was 3 years ago and they still send me xmas cards. i have no neede to stay in a hotel again but i would highly recommend it.
