me personally, i go to thailand and love it, have gone for the last two christmas holidays and have already booked my flight for xmas 2007
nice and hot, friendly people, what more can a person want
I do so agree with Miss Chief regarding booking direct, or even with a consolidator such as Alpharooms or Medhotels, as the iniquitous 'single supplement' seems to be a ploy of the major companies rather than the hotels. Many of the companies which specialise in 'singles' holidays advertise that they don't charge a single supplement, but their prices are frequently higher than others to start with.
Another alternative is to consider some sort of special interest holiday. Though not advertised as' singles' holidays in practice they tend to attract a higher percentage of lone travellers. For example, I have a number of friends who spend Christmas and New Year in Cuba honing their Salsa dancing skills and like most dance holidays, the majority of people there are single travellers. They don't 'do' Christmas in Cuba like we do here - it's a day off work and not much else - so everybody heads for the beach, chills out and eats lobster instead of turkey!
Its kind of a daunting thought and i really dont know where to go or what would be a good holiday for me.
I have considered a cruise but i suffer from motion sickness and im not sure if tablets ect would help me, i dont want to go and be sick all thru my break.
Any help would be appreciated thank
simon
For us to recommend a particualr destination, it might be helpful if you told us when you want to go and what your interests are (what you want out of the holiday - i.e. group holiday, chilling on the beach, adventure etc.)
In the meantime take a look at Solo Holidays - http://www.solosholidays.co.uk/ or friendship - http://www.friendshiptravel.com/?clid=CKC8jLDOz4wCFSSDEAodzymorg to give you some ideas
Good luck!!
my friends wont go on a ship either(new lot friends) which is a shame as a cruise looks so tempting if it wasnt for my motion sickness i would book a cruise tomorrow.
Depending on whether you are 'totally' independent or not, if it's a little nerve wracking for you I would recommend an all inclusive resort type holiday. The first time I holidayed alone I went to Dominican Republic as it was affordable, even having single room supplements. Because the majority of time was spent in the AI complex I met people straight away and I only ate alone the first day I got there. It was great. Resorts like these tend to have lots of things going on in the daytime as well, if that's what you want.
Hi Maygwan! Like you I suffer dreadfully from motion sickness. However a friend of mine & her son who also used to suffer now have an injection from the doctor before they go and are fine. You might like to phone your GP and check it out if you really fancy a cruise. It is a great way of meeting other people as you are usually seated on tables for 8 or 10 for meals, whereas in a restaurant in a resort you would probably sit by yourself.
I am looking to go on holiday for either a week or 2 weeks in August by myself but dont want to end up in a hotel full of either old people (60's) or young people (20's). I know there will be children but I dont mind that I work with them!!!
But I am at a loss as to where to go I fancy a 4 star hotel a little bit of pampering. Any ideas, as just now I am searching the whole of europe and getting no where fast!!!

Well I'm in my sixties and certainly don't regard myself as an old person, though some of the most interesting and lively people I have met on my travels have been in their 60's, 70's and even 80's.
Hi,
4* hotel, 2½ hour flight and the Spa Delfinus inside the hotel offering all kinds of treatments ( charged extra)"¦but hey you said you wanted pampering and you can use the facilities of the 2 sister hotels next door (the Don Pablo and Don Pedro) so you should get a good choice of age groups and decide which ones you prefer.

Sanjiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
thinking of doing the same next year for a week by myself, just a short haul one though, may go back to ibiza, but knowing my luck i will end up in skegness
Five years ago i went on hols on my own (Aged 55) left him indoors at home, as i needed some space and a chill out. I booked Minorca, Cal 'n Forcat, Hotel Almirante Farragut 3* and had a brill time, hotel in a great position overlooking a small cove, food good, rooms excellent & with a fridge and the hotels nightly entertainment was ok. Met lots of nice folks of all ages. If i went away again on my own I would go back there no probs, not over noisy but lots going on. Cheers Jayjan
If you haven't holidayed on your own, would you ever consider it?
At the moment, I don't need to consider it because hubby and I have the same ideas re holidays and go whenever we can. After this next summer though, his shift patterns and my holidays do not tie for quite a while( summer excluded) so I might just change my views on solo holidays
john-doe........
I've been doing solo holidays for about the past 10 years or so. With me, I can go see things i want to see, eat where i want, visit places i haven't been to before. Have made friends on the way, some of which i still keep in contact with. People are amazed that i just go on holidays by myself and how could i do it. I research where i'm going, have the guide books and/or maps, look confident. And next trip is already booked. With a couple of other ideas in the pipeline in where i want to go.
where have you been- just out of interest?
regards.......j.d.......
