Flight Only / Airline and Airports

Hi Mark ... the charges have been in force at some airports since last summer. Usually, there is no drop-off charge, as drop-offs are relatively brief and do not involve cars sitting outside the terminal for a long period of time. Pick-ups are not allowed outside some airport terminals, drivers are instead re-directed to a designated pick-up point within one of the nearest car parks, where a pick-up fee is charged.

Glasgow, Manchester and Belfast Intl are some of the airports to have made changes so far. You can usually find details on individual airport websites, probably under the 'getting there' or 'to and from the airport' sections.

Thanks for that David... just checked Stansted Airport and noticed that they don't allow pick up's anymore unless you park in a designated car park. Didn't notice this last time we went back in September as we were picked up in the same area we were dropped off.

Gatwick Airport is still free for both dropping off and collecting.

Will keep an eye on the websites nearer the time we're using an airport again.

At Liverpool John Lennon (which will always be Speke to me!) you have to go into the short stay car park for drop-offs and pick-ups and take a ticket from machine at the barrier but as long as you validate the ticket at the pay machines within a specified time (15mins from memory) and put it through the barrier machine within a similar time frame after it is validated then you aren't charged anything. So it's a bit of a faff because the car driver has to go into the terminal to get the ticket validated but it is still actually free to drop-off and pick-up and you do need to be careful about not turning up too soon to collect someone.

was in Newcastle on Friday they have currently halved the space for the pick up / drop zone and have cut the time to 10 mins thereafter they charge..luton has been doing this for a few months now

At Manchester, they allow drop-offs FOC, but you have to use the short stay car parks for picks ups at £1.80 for up to 30mins. You don't want to stay any longer than that because the costs start to get silly.

Our pick up usually waits close to the airport and we give them a bell when we are outside saves paying anything always a layby close at hand.
