Many thanks Luci I`ve had a look at that site and a cruise is available from Vancouver taking in the places we would like to go. Just have to tie up the rockies part of the trip. I`ll be in town today and will get some brouchures and discuss the trip with our local cruise centre . More a case of getting the info and expanding on the itinery, shore trips etc. I even found an excursion to swim with dolphins, another of the wifes dreams.
Excellent! If you give Scotland's Cruise Centre a call they should be able to help you. I found them very helpful.
I did San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale with Princess Cruises about 3 years ago.
As the others are saying a TA could do this all with a Tailor made itinerary. I use Scotlands Cruise Centre and Ali who is the Asst Manager has always been my agent. She is excellent and will sort everything for you. When I cruised I wanted some time in SF first and they can do hotels travel etc.
You have plenty of time but the full Panama is not done year round more like when it is time to reposition ships to the Caribbean for the winter. They can often have pretty good deals on them.
Hope we can help you!

spring 2008 Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver. These ships will be doing Alaska in the summer at either end.
I was looking at a story about a group of US tourists involved in an attack in Porto Limon in Costa Rica. They were a group of Carnival tourists who were on a trip on a mini bus private tour. This would be either a Panama or it may have been Caribbean cruise I would think.
They were attacked by 3 youths and a gun was held to one woman passengers head.
An older man I think around 70 who was an exmarine got one of the men in a headlock . They others ran away. The man who was held died from a broken neck and they took him in their van to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
He was a 20 year old with a criminal record. Police questions the passengers but after this they allowed them to return to the ship and it sailed that evening. Think this happened on the 22/23 February. The police said no charges would be brought as they had acted in self defence.
Carnival have announced that their ships will no longer stop there but will have a stop in Honduras instead.
None of the passengers were injured althought one lady was treated for shock. Carnival have sent someone to the ship to assist the passengers involved.
I just thought it might be of interest to some of you on these boards.

For this type of trip you need to look at the reposition cruises at the start/end of the Alaska season. If you have a lot of time you may get a few choices but typicaly you will be looking at 14n Panama and a 3-7n repo down to california from Vancouver.
Thanks everyone for the good advice. The Scottish Cruise Centre is part of Stewart Travel and only minutes from our home . The wife has been in and she had a chat with a very helpful assistant, who will get some more info for us ,and gave us a very nice brouchure on the Rocky Mountaineer.
Great stuff! Hope you manage to get your perfect trip booked. Remember to let us know when you book and let me know if there are any ships that need added to our Cruise Reviews site.
