Well just about recovered from my trip to Vegas. Well what can I say. The place is magic and my love affair with New York is over.
We stayed in a hotel off strip called the Gold Coast. I was pleasantly surprised considering we only paid $500 for 7 nights. It had a very reasonably priced Breakfast and dinner Buffet.
The hotel was about a 15 minute walk to the centre of the strip or there was a free shuttle bus to the Barbary Coast.
Shopping. We went to the Premium Outlet Centre and got some great bargains. Picked up a pair of Levis for $24. How bad. If you like more exclusive shops all the main hotels had their own shopping Malls with top name brands and there is a new shopping Mall on the strip called Fashion Mall but i was all shopped out by the time we got their.
We had a car rented while we were there so we covered a lot of Las Vegas. We drove out to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead which was beautiful.
However the highlight of my trip was our Helicopter trip to Grand Canyon. We were picked up at our hotel by shuttle bus and drove to Boulder Airport. Helicopter ride to the Canyon over Hoover Dam which took 45 minutes. Helicopter landed in the Canyon and we had a lovely picnic lunch and then ride back to Boulder. We paid about $250 each including lunch.
All in all our trip was fantastic and we will be back to Vegas again because there were so many things we still had to do and see.
Many thanks for posting your trip report
Forgot to say we used Papillion Helicopters for our GC tour.
I'll deffo be contacting you nearer my booking time.Since you mentioned it I've been looking at the Gold Coast as an option but I think I prefer the look of the Orleans....still holding out for the prices to drop or the promos to start before I comit to booking though
How do the rates for the GC and Orleans compare.
We had been watching the rates for ages at the GC and they never came down a cent and shortly after we booked them they went up a lot and some of the nights we were there were totally booked out.
Have you checked the convention calendar and bank holiday weekends Vegas just to make sure there is nothing on that time that would make the rates expensive.
When we were there it fell between Superbowl Weekend, Valentines and NBA Weekend so that was probably the reason why the rates never dropped.
We are considering the GC again, but I want a helicopter direct from LV rather than a bus to Boulder City so we're looking at Look Tours at the moment. I want to fly back down the strip at dusk!
Glad you enjoyed the Gold Coast. We've had a couple of meals there and enjoyed it.

We had a lovely meal in Bally's. In the Asia restaurant. We had a few drinks in the Tequila Bar next door during happy hour and just wondered next door. We travelled home on Valentines day so that was our Valentine Celebration, eventhough it was a day early.
Next time we plan to do the Heli trip over the strip at night.
The shuttle bus to the GC finished at 12am. However if you wished to stay out later you could nip into Ballys nextdoor and get the shuttle to the Rio which is next to the GC. DOnt know is there are any other hotels near the Orleans offering this service.
Vegas is very spread out and we only used a taxi once and that was to go from the Excalibur to the GC and it cost almost $10.
The best meal we've ever had was a top sirloin at the Cortez Room at the Gold Coast. It was part of a show and dinner package when we saw Forever Plaid and wasn't on the normal menu. We were going to try it again in May, but the show is finishing on 1 April so we'll miss out.
