might sound like a daft question, but as I get feasted on by the little blighters, just wondering as this is the earliest we've ever gone to tenerife. I know its cooler at night at this time of year so do they stay home and wrap up warm or get us poor, unsuspecting victims ?
I have been going to Tenerife for 19 years at all times of the year, never seen any
where the do the little luvvies hide out.

yes i must say we are very lucky here with mossies, never see any really...... i don't think they like it here!!
I've never had any problem with mosquitos in any of the Canary Islands at any time of year However some people say they get bitten in "greener" areas. It will be quite chilly in the evening in March, so I doubt there will be anything flying around then. We will be there at Easter and I'm not bothering to take any repellants, although I have used them in the summer months, just in case.
Are you sure they were mossies?. Seen plenty of people with bites over the years, but I think its down to bed-bugs or even fleas. Some places are to say the least, in need of a good revamp.
pebble, the bites I had last year deffinately looked and felt like mozzie bites, as for fleas and bed bugs, its been a lot of years since i've settled for accomodation like that ! no, we stay in a private rental thats cleaner than my own home !
I too get bitten every time we go away and usually its quite bad but, on another forum several people reccomended Avons skin so soft as there seems to be something in it that stops them biting. Both my sister and a friend tried it and it seems to have worked for them. They used the shower gel and the oil spray with no problems so, I have got some ready for when I go on our holidays this year. I will try anything if my legs are not half eaten by the time I get back. Jacqui
we have been going to tenerife for the past 12 years, the main reason was because i never got bitten by mossies unlike in greece etc, BUT the last couple of years we have been going at different times ( used to go september ) mainly may, oct and xmas and last oct 07 i got bitten really bad and ended up at the hospital with all the vile symptoms that go with bites, i thought they were mossie bites and all of them were except for 1 large one my ankle which i was told was a "jumping spider" bite YUK!!! Has anyone else had one of these, cause i felt really ill and was in bed for the majority of the week thank goodness when we returned xmas i was armed with jungle juice and never had 1 bite and i was on the look out for spiders!!
thanks for that , sam, was thinking i was going mad blaming the mossies for my bites last may in tenerife ! great that everyone else doesn't seem to have experienced this, but i'm convinced there are mosssies in tenerife, somebody prove me wrong with hard evidence !
you could always try covering yourself in vinegar, i hear that keeps them away!!!!!
cheers hairyhamster ! which chip shop do you reccomend in pdla for me to buy that from ? can I get eau de vinegar with a hint of roses ? hahahahah !
Hahahahaha
So I advise anybody going out there soon to take some repellent/ plug ins etc just to be on the safe side.
Never had a problem in March In fact never really had a problem for the last 20 years
Jumping spiders ..One of our friends who lives over there got bit by one and spent a night in hospital and had a swollen leg for weeks and very painful too
Repellent wise..I recommend "Expidition" I buy it from various sites over the net. You need a gas mask to apply it, but they have now brought out a roll-on version, we went to India last month and I didn't get bitten once!

Ann
I live in Tenerife and can confirm that they definitely do exist. We live in Chayofa, in the hills just behind Los Cristianos and we have to take precautions to stop them getting in the apartment in the evenings. I often have to get the spray out to dispose of the ones that do get in. My wife gets bitten sometimes but I rarely do.
It keeps the midgy bites at bay and I think it works with mosi's too
I've been told that eating Marmite on your toast every day keeps the mozzies off too.
