Stupid question I know but they have reported it on-board? If not they MUST do this and get a report in writing before they leave the ship. Without this, any claim for compensation will fail.

Secondly, they should seek advice from their holiday insurance straight away, not leave it until they get back home.

Did they actually see their luggage being loaded onto the coach? I ask this because I was accused last year of stealing a passengers hand luggage (I'm a rep). She had actually left it in arrivals at the airport and it was subsequently found by the airport police.

If they did see it being loaded onto the coach then it looks as if it has been stolen en-route and they should certainly have some recousre against the coach comnany via Tour Operator.

But regardless of how/what happened... They must get a written report and inform their insurance ASAP.

Do also tell your friends to retain any receipts for items that they have had to purchase to cover this (hopefully temporary) loss.

You friend should have checked their travel insurance policy as soo as it became apparent that their luggage was lost as it will state in there what they can claim for reagrding lost or delayed luggage, usually essential clothes and toiletries up to a certain amount.
