I would look at the trip advisor website too as the reviews on there are more up to date, and the people on the forums are so helpful. Egypt is a great place to visit, we are going back for the 3rd time in 18 months in just under 2 weeks. As long as you do your research for the kind of accommodation and facilities you like you won't go far wrong. We prefer somewhere quiet and relaxing so we go to Nuweiba, and our teenagers of 13 & 18 loved the place although in the UK they would be more at home with the social scene. I think because it is so different from home we enjoy the culture, the people and of course the weather!

Sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone here just trying to make the point that you need to get as much info as possible to make the right personal choice.

Haddy3 - check out El Gouna, I have read loads of good reports on the resort and Eclipsedirect have good value prices to Three Corners Rihana Resort, which also had good reviews - they also have family rooms!!. We have booked for next April. It doesn't sound as lively or commercialised as Sharm (even though its a purpose built resort!) so depends what you want? - but if you're going in the summer months El Gouna is not supposed to be as oppressively hot as Sharm?

Good luck! :)

We have booked today to go to the HV Red Sea resort in Sharma. FC/Eclipse are doing a low cost deposit at the moment only £30 per person.

We always check our prices on line before going to the travel agent and usually managed to get them price matched but this year we took a chance and booked direct with the shop and had a result as we got it cheaper than on line!!!

We are travelling next July (school holidays) with a 13 year old son. HVs holidays are good value for money; see post on Holiday Vilage - Egypt. We have been to them before and are especially good for teenagers.

were looking at going there ourselves next year. when in july are you going?

We have booked for 24th July, 2008. Have been a bit decadent and booked one of the "swim up" rooms as its our 25th wedding anniversary!!

Are you travelling with children? Have a look at the HV thread on this site too.

I'm trying to persuade Altoman to book one of those swim up rooms (we'll need 2 though - one for the kids + my brother and one for us) but I'm not sure I can get him to go with it.

What we are looking for is an AI hotel with an onsite diving school so that we can have a lazy day and just do a house reef dive if we don't want to go out on a boat. I think the HV fits the bill.

Don't know when we shall book for next year, sometime in July but depends on when hubby can get his hols.

I got caught on this - you do realise you have yo pay the balance of the full deposit 8 weeks after your booking......it's buried in the t&c

Most if not all low deposits have to be paid a few weeks after, at one time with travelcare it used to be 6 months after, but nowadays they are asking for it a few weeks after. I always now pay all the deposit, that way there isnt anymore charges, eg extra fuel supplements, did you realise that if the full deposit isnt paid, and fuel goes up, you are liable for the extra. Normally once the full dep is paid, the booking price should remain the same.

Also Thomson & portland summer 08 are supposed to be on sale from the 28th April.

edit * forgot to add that Portland are part of thomson and are a lot cheaper, we saved over £400 by going with them for the same hotel, same plane and same rep.*

Just rang portland holidays up (sister to Thomsons except you book direct). Their brochures are on sale next Friday :D
