Thinking about Mexico in December, but not keen on big resorts with high rise hotels. Could anyone recommend smaller, more personal areas and point me in the direction of a Tour Co. that could help. If you have any ideas or tips, that would be fantastic.
Thank you
Maz
are you looking at Cancun or Puerto del carmen? IF so have a look at our Caribbean forum- there is a fair bit about them there.
Playacar is just outside Playa Del Carmen and is a gated community which has a few hotels including Iberostar Tucan. PLaya Del Carmen is also just as good and doesn't have high rise hotels. I would recommend any of the Iberostar hotels in Mexico.
As long as you go outside of Cancun you should be fine

I would recommend Puerto Vallarta over on the pacific coast. Its a slightly longer flight but much more Mexican than Cancun and Puerto del Carmen which is similar to Florida.First Choice fly here and usually have good late deals.
I would also recommend Puerto Vallarta. It's much cheaper too.
Thanks guys. Funny enough, I was looking at Puerto Vallarta today and have used FC before. If you have any ideas on where to go/places to see etc, that would be great.
Thanks

That's where we stayed too back in 2001. Thinking about going again next year.
Riviera Maya.
Try Riviera Maya. Nice area as long as the hurricanes stay away....................
Try Isla Mujere's off the coast of Cancun- amazing little island- been to it about 5 times on day trips and once overnight- quaint doesn't do this justice- there is nothing over about 3 storeys. Everyone is friendly and speaks english. It is no where near as americanized as Cancun/Playa del carmen.
I have been to Mexico about 14 times in the last 2-3 years and this is close to idylic- I could and would retire to this little island.
shorter flight time than Puerto Vallerta and will give you the best of both worlds- busy and quiet should you want it.
Puerto Vallarta is amazing, I have been lucky enough to go once and loved every minute- but Isla Mujere's is idylic...

You could try the Caribbean Warehouse. When I spoke to them last year they appeared to have intimate personal knowledge of many of the hotels and may be able to provide a good match for your requirements.
For my holiday, as a bonus, it turned out they were considerably cheaper than anything else I could find using my normal TO routes, even eclipse.
Everything on the holiday went as smoothly as our previous best trips with the major TOs.
