can't advise you re the passport, but with regard to the trip I have been advised at the time not to book via a tour operator. The reason was that you then get dragged into jewelery and carpet joints where they generally get commision on sales generated..

We did not go in the end anyway.. but that was the advise to us last year

basically it was said that the best thing to do is to book the boat trip, get from there to Marmaris via dolmus or taxi. This way you are not dependend on a guide and you are free to enjoy the day the way you want it.

Hopefully somebody else can confirm if this is the best way to go about it

I was in Marmaris last year. The ship leaves from the big harbour at about 8.30 am. Although I was an Escort for an English group, I would recommend to go on your own. It is even cheaper. Just go to the little house there (looks like a kiosk) and get your tickets. They did not take my passport away last year. It is worth having a look at the Basar.

As others have said book the trip yourself in Mandraki harbour and you'll make a good saving on the tour ops excursion price. If the hydrofoil/flying dolphin is operating by then it's a much better option than the ferry as it gets you there in 45 mins, giving you a full day in Marmaris.

I don't think you'll have a problem with the Cypriot stamp in your passport. I worked in Cyprus for 3 months one winter and visited Marmaris from Rhodes a few times the following summer.
