Hello brittonn, first the trip to Gozo with you staying at Mellieha you are only round the courner from the Gozo ferry port (short bus ride) you can look up the fare and times for the ferry on the site below. There are three ways to see Gozo, 1st do it yourself when you get of the ferry there will be a local bus that takes you to Victoria bus station were you can then transfer to some other parts of the island, 2nd you can ask a taxi driver for a price to take you round the island for a few hours but fix the price first, 3rd or you can go with a tour firm and they take to most of the best bits on the island.

As for Valletta you will need to get the bus the other way and you get dropped of right out side the city gate when you get to Valletta, when you go through the city gate on your right hand side is the tourist office, this is were you can get a map of all the sites to see, along with other leaflets.
You can get to most parts of the island from Bugibba bus station not far from were you are staying, if you plan to to go to a few sites it may pay you to bye a 3 or 7 day bus pass this saves time and money over single fares.
As for eating out its a bit like being at home, if you go to a posh place then your money won't go far but there are lots of places that are nice that don't cost you the earth. I am sure there are a few people who have been to Mellieha who will let you know the price of a Cisk and some good restaurant in the area.

£50.00 will be enough. All of the restaurants in Mellieha serve dishes that cost 3.75Lm to 6Lm p.p. With the exception of Arches which is a very nice plush restaurant. Well worth a visit though but book early. I stay at an apartment block opposite the flag poles of the Pergola. Very nice views overlooking the Islands of Comino and Gozo can be had so try and obtain a sea-view room
