Stoupa is lovely (some friends of mine are going this year on my recommendation). It is a small resort with a couple of lovely beaches, nice restaurants and bars. We didn't stray out of the resort because my friend was nervous of driving back through the moutains to get to places of interest, ie Olympia, Corinth Canal, etc. There is another small resort (which I think is close enough to walk to but we never did because it was so HOT). It's a few years since we were there but I dont recall any buses or taxis so it is a very laid back holiday but defintely a place I would visit again.
We went to Stoupa a couple of years ago in August. It is a lovely resort with enough tavernas to last at least 2 weeks. It is still quite greek in that there is hardly any Skysports, english breakfasts or burger and chips bars. You can get a lovely gyros pitta.
The resort we found was a little isolated in that it took a long time to get to places of interest in a hire car. You are going to be 2 or 3 hours travelling to get to Mystras and Monemvassia and Olympia are further still. There are no boat trips to speak of either. It all depends what kind of holiday you like. It is a lovely place with good beaches and very relaxing.
We would definetely return. A fantastic forum for Stoupa which is very active is at http://www.zorbas.de/webcam/camboard/ . There are also 2 webcams.
Enjoy, Yiamass, Jean
Thanks for that, i may give it a try, went to Kafelonia last year and really enjoyed it.
I reckon whoever is driving the bulldozer is going to win the sandcastle competition.. . ..
Or is it clearing the dreaded ciggie butts ready for the 2007 arrivals
Whoopee! You know that the holidays are just around the corner when the bulldozer hits the beach at Stoupa! 5 weeks to go and I will be sitting roughly where it is in the picture with a glass of Mythos in my hand!
The beach on the photo is town beach, but Kalogria over the hill is stunning and has sunsets to die for. Great coffee bar on the beach in the trees with chill out music. In fact thats all we did for two weeks - just chill out
We also travelled here with Greek Options, a good company we thought. Really enjoyed this resort and the surrounding area. This would not really suit the 18/30s crowd, its too civilised but everyone else is well catered for. Its frequently compared to Parga for suitability of age group and expectations but Parga is prettier.
We have been to Greece the last two years running and I am considering a change for us, but am tempted by Stoupa which has been recommended a few times now..does anyone know if you can fly there directly from Scotland? We are a couple who enjoy quiet, untouristy places with a bit of authenticity and a decent choice of bars and restaurants...
can anyone convince me to go for Stoupa?
Thanks
MsH
For those considering Stoupa - a view of the main town beach from the Enigma Bar. I have a selection of photos from my 2005 holiday there, accessed by clicking the photo.
Been there last week. Excellent place to stay and relax. The beach is fantastic. However, dont forget to visit other villages too: Agios Nikolaos, Kardamili and also the Laconian Mani which is amazing!
JimB - Google 'jimb sail' or go http://www.jimbaerselman.f2s.com/
Compares the sailing areas of Europe, and does SW Greece too.
