I am thinking of booking Portugal next year (going to Skala Kefalonia this year)
We always go to GHreece but fancy a change. we love quiet traditional places with nice beaches and great resturants fancy Portugal next year. Any one know of an idilic place to go somewhere wher they isnt any clubs 18-30 we are a mid aged couple so like it quiet.
Think about Lagos in the western Algarve;it's one of the few resorts that has managed to retain its Portuguese character whilst adapting to tourism. The beaches are legendary, from small private coves to a massive, glorious 5km beach which reaches as far as the neighbouring resort. As for restaurants, you'll be really spoilt for choice- you could eat out at a different one every night of the year and still have a few you hadn't visited.
For a taste of the town, visit http://www.simplylagos.comand don't be afraid to ask if you need any further info.
Good thing that you have a bit of time to choose where to have your next holiday since you are spoilt for choice in the Algarve!
There are at least 70 beaches in the Algarve so it depends on the beach and what you want to combine with the beach + what conveniences you would like to have nearby. For example, after a couple of days at the beach I quite like to explore the surrounding country side, do some sightseeing of historical monuments and local markets, go to shopping areas , go to the cinema or see a show, i.e. do a bit more than just stay at the beach/stay by the pool!
Going from West to East there are very worthwhile beaches and places to stay at or near:
Aljezur,
Vila do Bispo,
Lagos,
Portimão,
Lagoa,
Armação de Pêra,
Albufeira,
Loule,
Faro,
Olhão,
Tavira,
Vila Real de Santo Antonio and;
Castro Marim.
So lots of places to consider!
In the meantime have a good time at Skala.
I'm staying at the Marina Club apartments in Lagos in July this year. They sound like they might suit you, I believe they are well appointed and quiet. I will do a report on my return. There is a link to their web-site in the chat part of the Algarve forum.
