They have kunas in Croatia.

We got some currency to take with us, we just ordered it from the travel agents (you might not be able to get them without ordering them first), and some travellers cheques which we changed in the hotel (can't be bothered with rushing about in the heat to find a bank just to save a few pence) but there seem to be plenty of cash points around too.

If you are staying at the north end, and thinking of taking a day trip to Venice, remember you will need euros for Italy  ....

Thanks so much Acorncup. We will probably order some money, then just use the cash machines. We are staying in Rovinj at the Park Hotel. I think I read that you had stayed there before? Its our first time to Croatia, really looking forward to it.

most places take euros so check the exchange rates - might be worth your while exchanging at home. rovinj is beautiful. by far the nicest town in istria. enjoy evening drinks by the harbour. ahh memories...

Yes the Park Hotel was great.... :) I did a review on it.....

and while we were there last year, they were actually installing a cash point in the ground floor at the hotel.
Don't know what the charges are like...but it's there anyway!

One point, we could only change notes back to sterling when we got home, they wouldn't accept coins.

Hello!

you can buy kuna at Thomsons but need to give one wk notice to order - think will probably take some cash but mainly serling cheques and change there I think. Not been before but it looks like we'll be staying at the park the same time as you - we go 4 weeks tomorrow so you'll have a week advantage on us!! Hope you enjoy - maybe see you there!! :D

We just got back from Istria on Sunday night. We took £50 of Kuna and then used our Nationwide card to withdraw from the ATM's.
We noticed that there were a lot of places which had signs saying that they would not take Euro's, so better to be safe than sorry.

Have a lovely time! 8)

I assume you can order Kuna from most travel agents? We dont have a Thomsons holiday shop nearby anymore so we were going to pop into First Choice and order it there. I take it this will be ok.
Also we are staying at the Hotel Park in Rovinj and this is half board, but we may go out some evenings for a meal to try the local restaurants. Can anyone give me an idea how much it will cost for a two course meal and a couple of drinks each.
Thanks :D

Just back from a 2 centre where we had the first week at the Hotel Eden in Rovinj. The food at our hotel was not very good so we ate out a couple of times. The first place we ate out was quite near your hotel and the food was excellent. The total cost for the meal was about £26 which was 2 main courses, half litre wine, water and one sweet. On average the cost for a main meal was anything from £4 upwards. House wine was very reasonable and was around a staggering £3 - £4 for half litre. Beer was also very cheap at less than £2.00

We too just used our Nationwide card and just paid cash with Kunas. Nationwide also give an excellent rate and no charge for using your card abroad.

Hi Sugarbabe
Thanks for the reply. We were only going to take about £100 in Croatian currency and we also have a nationwide card which we were going to use when we get there.
Can you remember the name of the nice restaurant near the Hotel Park?
Also ive been checking the weather and it keeps saying thunderstorms every other day  which is a bit worrying. Was the weather nice when you were there?
Thanks :D

The weather was mixed when we were there. Out of the week we had one day very sunny blue sky all day, one day of constsant rain and the rest was a mixture of cloud and sunshine. It was also very warm probably around 25 - 30 most days!!

I cannot remember the name of the restaurant but if you go from your hotel to the town Centre, not long after you come out of your hotel you will see the boat yard on the left hand side of the road. Across the road there are about 4 restaurants. The one we ate in had tables outside and also if you looked up they had more seating in what looked like another dining area higher up which overlooked the bay. It was next to a cocktail bar and if I remember rightly out of the 4 bars/restaurants that are together it would be the second one nearest to your hotel. They have signs outside Pizza/Fish/Grill.

Hope you have a FAB time.
