In any area that is designated as a tourist zone, all building licenses expired on May 15th and will not be renewed until October. If there is building work going on next to a hotel then it is more than likely illegal. Anybody can speak to the builders and ask to see their licence if they refuse or if the license is not valid the police may be called and they will come and stop the work.

cheers i thought that was the case!!! we arrived on the 19th may till 28th and they and their big cranes were working. the 3rd day the pool was full of sand and dust from the site and we couldnt use it for 2 days.

I just hope they dont start taking down the Las Perlas in June because i will feel really sorry for the tourists expecting a quiet holiday!

and is it just me or are most english tour operators pulling out of San An and the bay???

they better not pull it down soon as I am stayin in the mar amantis hotel from the 7th july!!!

There is just a crane over the las perlas at the moment, nothing has moved in the time i was there so fingers crossed they wont! Im pretty sure the hotel owners around will soon say something if they do!!!! I will ask Sue from Pink Panther on further developments and keep you posted!

i heard they are building more private apartments where las perlas is, it seems as though the hotels are slowly dissapearing! another hotel i know well in the bay has been offered silly money so they can knock it down and build on but luckily they turned them away. at this rate i am just going to have to buy my place over there!!!

they're building a new 5 star hotel further along by the playa bella and there's a whisper that a marina nearby which was planned many years ago will finally see fruition!
