Tell them to catch the Cedaz service, directly outside the terminal - see the main PRAGUE thread above [or below] for more details on prices etc..

Have a look HERE

I would personally use the local transport system, around £2 per day for unlimited use, highly recommended. Passes can be bought at the shop in the airport.

What is the weather like at this time of year?

Any recs for eating and drinking

It is my husbands 30th while we are over there so should be indulging quite a bit.

I always recommend Zahrada v Opere (Garden at the Opera) for a superb meal if you are looking for somewhere with excellent food and wine and great service. It's not too expensive either. I have left further details about food and prices earlier on this thread. It's right next to the Prague state opera.

We got a small amount of currency here and then used ATMs to withdraw cash with our Nationwide card. You can also pay by debit/visa card in most restaurants.

Had a lovely break in Prague between Christmas and New Year, though it was a very busy time to visit. We stayed in the hotel Domus Henrici, on the road between the castle and the Loreto. The hotel was lovely, warm, comfortable and tastefully decorated. It was in a quiet location, convenient for the castle, Loreto and Strahov but a bit of a way from the Old Town. The sister hotel - Domus Balthasar - is right by Charles Bridge and looks like it has similar high standards, for anyone who would prefer to be more central.

For anyone looking for a special restaurant, try "David", near the American embasssy in Mala Strana. It's a bit more pricey than the average but the food and service were exceptional - we paid about £60 for the 2 of us (2 courses plus drinks and tip):

If a p*ss up in a brewery is more your style, try the brewery at the Strahov monastery, there are 3 places to eat, a small pub, a restaurant and a large beer hall. We has a good and filling 2 course meal in the beer hall, including several of the dark St. Norbert beers brewed there, for £25 for both of us.

There,s something i just read on another thread thats worrying me can anyone give me advise we stayed in a 5* hotel in prague and on checking in the receptionist took my visa card and scanned it,is this normal and is it safe.
Reply
Never had mine scanned before but I've had it swiped through one of those old style machines. Before chip and pin - Remember when you had a printed sales slip with the value on it and you had to sign? One of those. It was blank and they just held onto until we checked out as a guarantee. At check out they printed our bill, swiped our card again, gave us the completed slip to sign and then gave us back the blank one they'd taken when we checked in. It was fine and we didn't have any credit card fraud if that's what you're concerned about.

Thanx puddleduck but my mind was working overtime these credit cards are a nuisance sometimes the worry they cause,i've checked my bank account and it seems fine at the mo.Just got to be safe and not sorry!.

Any hotels throughout the world now take "imprints" of your credit card as a guarantee in case you check out without taking payment.

Its safe [if in reputable hotels anyway] and is really just their secrurity on you doing a runner!

Thing to remember is that imprint will register with your credit card company, so say you have £5k limit, and the hotel is £1k, then you wont be able to spent more than £4k on the card as they effectively reserve some funds.

Always take a spare card you rarely use if you are planning on major shopping sprees etc,

Myself and a few freinds are going to visit Prague for the weekend
Flying from Scotland, looking for the cheapest of cheap stay.
Does anyone have any airlines that are cheap from scotland to Prague?
and where would be advised to stay

Welcome to the forums Niall. For flights from Scotland, check out Flyglobespan and Czech Airlines. Flyglobespan also do package deals, but not sure if 'cheap' would apply. While you wait for some more feedback, you may find lots of useful advice and suggestions in earlier pages of this thread.

Hi all. Staying at the Mucha hotel March 6-9 this year. Don't particularly want to spend £20e/w on a taxi from the airport, can anyone advise me on the best way from the airport to the town center.
Thanx!

Hi BigPhil

For our transfer we used http://www.cedaz.cz they do 2 services, one is airport to hotel which is about £20 but the other is the regular shuttle bus from the airport to V Celnici street (by Republic square - Namesti Republiky). They run every half hour both ways and it cost us 90 CZK each one way (just over £2). The mini buses are right outside the airport terminal and you either pay the driver or at the kiosk inside.

Found a map on the internet and from where our hotel was and the drop off it looked a long way so emailed cedaz to find out how far our hotel was and they emailed me back to say its only about a 10 min walk. There are free maps in the minibus so took one of these, asked the driver where our hotel was and he pointed us in the right direction and it was only a 10 mins walk. Streets are short and are all well signposted.

Depends on where your hotel is and what time you land but we landed at 10:00am so were in no rush, caught the 10:30 bus and we were at the hotel by 11:15. Excellent service and will use them again.

Also found the website http://www.pragueexperience.com useful.

Not sure of the hotel Alison, but as long as you stay away from the tourist places in the centre, Prague can be cheap.

A few links for you:

http://www.praguepubs.co.uk/, a good guide with prices etc.

http://www.pragueexperience.com/, gives good info.

http://www.gastroinfo.cz/pivodum/index-a.html, one of my favourite restaurants, good honest Chech hospitality.

http://www.restauraceuvejvodu.cz/?page=home&lang=EN, one of my favorouite pubs/beerhalls in the centre which doesn't rip you off.
