If you are flexable on dates you may get a deal but OV do not tend to have many. check TXT to watch prices this year and you will see what the patern is.(se the sticky post on geting deals for info on TXT)
You say better value elsewhere - suggestions please!!
RCI,NCL,Princess, or a bit more upmarket so harder to find the deals Celebrity.
Another thing to remember is that if you book with RCI Princess Celebrity is that if the price comes down then that price drop can and will be applied to your booking.
At the outset there may be incentives to book early but even then it depends on how the various grades are selling
Whe I booked to do the TA on Millennium in March it was cheaper to book a balcony than a low grade ocean view. I then upgraded to a CC room and still saved a lot just by keeping my eye on the web site.
You need to ask the TA to get that price reduction for you. If you book direct then you just call the the cruise company.
I just booked a cruise for 2 friends on Mercury doing 16 Nights from San Francisco doing the inner Passage Alaska and returning to Vancouver. It is April next year and is really a repositioning cruise.
Including domestic flights and international flights and a night hotel in SF plus transfers they are paying £1645 for a grade 5 ocean view room. This is excellent value as the Cruise element is just over £800.
My advice to you is shop around. Teletext and also get yourself on some TA mailing lists. Good Luck!
Sue
