I did have but no longer have any credit cards due to the excess hike in APR's. I am going to Cyprus in June and was concerned that having one debit visa card should that not work, i am buggered for cash. I am not taking traveller's checks, but read on the internet about prepaid euro cards via fair FX.
This is actually a pretty good card, for those of you that do not know what it is, you can choose these cards are prepaid on euros, dollars or anywhere.
So basically to add money on, check their web site to get the better deal, add it via your debit card, or online for example.
I popped on my card £250 last night and they gave me an extra 40 euro with it. The more you add, the more extra they give you. In euro resorts it is free to use on purchases, but as with a lot of pre-paid cards and credit cards it costs £1.50 to withdraw, so its better to withdraw more than you want so not paying more than necessary.
If you lose the card anywhere, you telephone a number and another card issued within a few hours.
Travellers appear to get more euros/dollars etc from this site than say the post office, bureau de change and marks and spencer.
What's also good is you are in control of your spending as its your cash on the card, you can check up for your balance via sms as well.
If you are interested in getting of these free cards, do it via the money saving expert, they waive the £9.95 fee
Heres some info from money saving expert : -

click on the pre-paid link to waive the fee.
The fair fx website is here

Remember though you pay a fee on their site.
I hope some of you find this useful, you can still withdraw cash in the UK but again £1.50 charge.

They dont add extra the more you add to your card, £250 transfered at 1.16 gives you 290 euro
I have an Anywhere card from this company and am of the opinion that it costs 1.5% to withdraw money abroad.I did not know that there is a minimum amount that they charge.
On my euro card it charges £1.50 for every transaction abroad. Therefore in our case better to withdraw more so not having a load of £1.50 charges.
fx card and there are NO charges for using it to withdraw money -
