I think holidays/flights will be going up further if oil prices keep rising. I booked flights 2 weeks ago and glad I did. I don't think we will see the kind of crazy cheap deals last minute like last season.

Would be interesting to know how many flights are scheduled this year.

To be honest I'll not be complaining if it's really quiet when I go in Nov'. :sun2

For my holiday on 20 December I paid the total for 2 of £1898 , the last time I looked it was £2450 !!!

Well after reading Del's post I looked on the First Choice site and the holiday we have booked for March 2009 has gone up by £222 in a matter of weeks :yikes

Dont think your going to find a scheduled flight much cheaper, at the moment Sri lankan airways are quoting £600 flight only in august and thats off season, so you can be sure the prices will rise alot more come season time.
Not just the prices of flights that are rising, accommdation is too. They are quoting for monsoon 20/50.000rps a month for small houses and 20/30.000rps for 1/2 bedroomed flats, which is stupid prices for monsoon they sure are getting worried out here with all the negative media attention that goa has had these past few months both here and all over the world its not looking good.

If the panic is setting in already I dread to think what hike in prices will be in the shacks and taxis :duh

Anywhere in the world when business is poor, prices get adjusted down the way but not in Goa. There seems to be no understanding of the fact that for a good few years a lot of locals have been doing very nicely out of tourism. Now they are whinging, I dont think I will be consoling those who weren't prepared for the downturn.

Maybe if there are less shacks then there will be not a lot of difference. There's always somebody wise enough to do business at a reasonable price with tourists, it's the new tourists that will get overcharged. I can't see Indian tourists paying inflated prices.

The panic is not setting in already, its just the same people who are scaremongering as usual.
You will always be able to get a taxi at the price you want, because they want the work .and as the shack owners know from the past,if there prices are not reasonable to the tourists then they will find another shack that is.The same goes for some of the ridiculous prices for accommodation people dont pay them they will be empty for the start of the season, and the prices will drop. ;)
Be positive and enjoy your holidays :sun2

I agree with Split regarding taxis and beach shacks etc., but the problem with flights and accomodation or package hols is that many of us cannot wait for prices to adjust by pressure of low sales.
For example, to be reasonably sure that I can have the weeks off that I want at work , I have to arrange them up to 12 months in advance.
this season I am fairly satisfied with the price I have paid, but the amounts that are being quoted now are staggering.
I assume that the price increases reflect the popularity of goa , and of course the increase in fuel
costs
If this continues into next season then I will probably think more about different destinations, or at worst a few weeks in the caravan with an umberella! :yikes

Del949 ,the schedule flight prices are cheaper than last year.I dont know about charter prices though :think

Don't know about flight only on charter, but when I booked for 2009 I paid approx same as for 2008 for package around £1800 inc premium cabin
However, as I posted above, the same holiday booked now (except hotel is not Phoenix park but Highland beach)is about £650 dearer.
If this continues into the 2010 season.......ouch!!!

Funnily enough this only seems to be noticeable with First Choice, Thomsons and My Travel and T Cook seem to be around the same as the beginning of year.
Perhaps FC are taking advantage of their flights having very good revues.

But Del this year Thomsons are also using First Choice flights as well, I believe they are all the one company now :think

Yes you're right Gemma, but their website doesn't appear to show the same kind of increase,
Of course as I booked with FC I can only compare the figures I KNOW about.

MyTravel are using the new Thomas Cook flights with the same 33 seat pitch as First Choice, however their prices as still fair, First Choice seems to be pricing themselves out of the market!!

ARRGGHHHHH......Just checked the Marinha Dourada on the Thompson website. It has gone down £60 pp since I booked it three weeks ago!!!

And I thought all prices would only go up.....doh!

:cry :cry :cry :cry :cry

Spinner the prices go up and down all the time and since you are travelling at Easter - they will go up again :yikes
I hope Thomas Cook carry out their promise and Goa passengers will actually be on a flight with the extra leg room. Thomsons promised the exact same on their own flights last season, but both our outward and return journeys were the old normal rubbish seats caused "due to cirmcumstances beyond their control, and a fault on one of the planes" all lies of course. I didnt book with Thomsons again this season for any of my holidays because of this and wrote and told them so!!!

At least it's booked and I know that I'm going....that's the important thing. :tup

I booked with TC for this years holiday and flew with the dreaded Monarch. Apart from the 24 hour delay ( :D ) the flight home was a total joke and so I could have got the holiday slightly cheaper but I wasn't prepared to fly Monarch again.

According to the Thomson website, they are advertising the 33" seat and seatback tv's etc on all longhaul........we'll see.

We booked in February, and for 4 adults, 1 child and an infant it was £3445 with Eclipse Direct, going on 3 Jan for 2 weeks and staying at the Lagoa Azul. I had a look the other day and the same holiday is now £4135, £690 more !!!!!

I'm glad we booked when we did !! ;)

mazzy, thats a good price, and ive heard good reviews about that hotel, the photos you emailed me were very good, so i'll have a look at eclipse.

Nicola, Thomas Cook also have the Lagoa Azul in their brochures and they tend to be a bit cheaper, so it might be worthwhile having a look.
Ive stayed at the Lagoa Azul once and would have no hesitation returning, very nice hotel and very friendly staff.
