When we came back from Dalaman in May we had a private transfer and the car got stopped going into the airport and we had to wait for a while then the police came and asked to see the drivers documents then another man came and asked our driver something and he was getting quite irate he had to show all different licences then kept pointing at us we were there for about ten minutes. He told us then that they were checking he was a registered driver for airport transfers as they were stopping unregistered transport from entering the airport for pick up or dropping back. He said he was telling them to hurry up as we had a plane to catch!! He must have been registered as we got through ok.

Hi there,

This is one of my previous posts, in the topic transfers Dalaman Olu Deniz etc.

Certainly when we were there in May, the Turkish tour operators were having a problem at Dalaman, something to do with licence upgrading to a D2 ( whatever that is ).Fortunately, The company that I arrange transfers with, for myself and other people are registered with the turkish tourism board and have now sorted this out, where as, the none registered will probably have great difficulty getting into Dalaman now, for collections and drop offs, so beware. ! !

I noticed that transfer charges rose dramatically last year ...

...we booked for a private (but shared) transfer for October 2006 to Marmaris, back in October 2005, and it was really cheap (about £15 pp return, and less for kids)

....by the time we took our transfer though , we noticed that the going rate was more like £25pp and over.

I guess this may be one reason why they have been able increase charges so dramatically, if there is some kind of cartel going on. :?

the reasons to stoped it.

There are some Britt expats living in at holiday resorts. They are doing airport transfers without paying taxs and licenses. This transfers has damaged to taxi owners at Dalaman airport. Only tourism transfering licenses minibuses/people carries/buses allowed to pick up. If you go with car you have to write down name/s who the person landed.

Other reason is security of Terrorism.

This post has got me really worried . We are going to olu deniz for three weeks in august and my 17 year old daughter is joining us for the last week , my husband was going to pick her up , i was worried about her as she has never travelled alone and i don't want her to get to dalaman and not seeing us there for her. what should I do?

I would arrange for someone to pick her up who has a licence as there is no way they are letting private cars in

Just imagine if this happened at our english airport, it is unheard of isnt it

If you use the car park there is no problem the problems are coming from people using the drop off/pick up points.

If you're waiting for someone to arrive its probably easier to use the car park anyway - it is 6.50 ytl for an hour.

We've done a pick up and a drop off this year when my parents came out and no problems at all using the car park.

This just in from the appartments we are returning to again this year.
It seems as though lilcheekymonkey may be right. We will not have a problem as our private transfer is by a licensed driver and vehicle. We are going to the Kelopatra Appts II for the seventh time and our man Jake has brushed this off as not important as our transfer is secure. If you are doing a DIY I suggest that you contact your 'man' in Turkey and check that your transfer will be OK.
It's such a shame that this kind of thing happens overthere as it's bound to put people off, similar to the hassle that can happen.
Thanks for all of your replies.

This has always been the case at Dalaman Airport (certainly since 2004, anyway).

Even an ordinary yellow taksi is not allowed to enter the airport arrival zone if he has no passengers, and does not have the correct licence plate; all Dalaman taxis' in the airport have a special licence number.

However, any car/taxi can drive to departures.

I have been picked up by friends in arrivals - them driving private cars, and have never had a problem. I have also driven myself to pick up a relative in arrivals, and again, except for the obligatory security checks on the car, had no problem at all.

The airport are just trying to weed out unregistered taxis (a bit like unlicenced mini-cabs who tour for business over here, outside nightclubs).

Last night i got a phone call from my friend from UK. His daughter and boyfriend were in Marmaris and they got private transfer from an English guy. He did pick up them from Dalaman airport. Return price was £130 which expensive than normal transfer. The transfer guy said he couldnt take them back to airport cause he aint bothered and ripped my friend's daughter. I arranged a private transfer for them which £45 one way with VIP car. They were so happy with that. I dont understand why the Britt expats are doing this to other Britts ? and they are working illegally. They are saying at airport this. " We came to pick up our sisters/brothers/daughters/sons etc. which they are lying and not paying any taxes. This is damaging Turkish economy aswell. pls beware of this Britt transfer peoples !!! you can contact with sum transfer companies which working legally. Thanks

Have a nice holidays

Everyone involved legally with tourism in Turkey pays a licnese fee and now another £8,000 on top of that to obtain a new bit of paper to transfer people legally to the airport.

People as monkey says who do not obtain the license are moonlighting and are doing so illegally.

It has been happening in Spain for many years and there are flights all the time at airports over this.

I myself got chatting to someone on the plane to Benidorm in January and he said don't bother getting the transfer bus it takes too long so jump in the cab with me and share it to Benidorm.

I did and not realising the rules was in a private car with an English driver who charged me 35 euros after dropping the other man off and as he dropped me at the hotel there was my bus.

I found out that because he was not licensed I was not insured for accidents and he actually charged me more than the local taxi driver would and when I saw the bus that did it for me.

You live and learn eh
