Hi Pauline, could you not have a multi split unit system where you only have 1 outside unit which works 2 inside units. This system is dearer than 2 separate units. I own in Portugal and we had the option of this put to us before we went ahead but opted for separate units as we dont have problems with residents committee as we dont own on a complex. I would shop around suppliers of airconditioning and see if you can have this, maybe they dont do this system in Spain am not sure. Regards Jayjan

Thanks for the reply JayJan, but we have already had a quote for that. we in fact would need three units. One in the lounge and one in each bedroom. The two units could only serve the lounge and one bedroom. the most important rooms are the bedrooms, so it seems a waste of money!! Thanks anyway , wish me luck!!!

why then dont you put the 1st unit in the other bedroom and just have airconditioning in the bedrooms with a split outside unit like the first person said, if you look in the costablanca news you will find companies doing them for around 1000 euros.

Hi Pauline, why dont you have your 2 bedrooms done and buy a portable airconditioning unit for the lounge which you can move around. We have a portable which is hot & cold air and cost us around 90 euros & they have come down in price since we bought ours 18 months since, and its handy to be able to use it in any rooms you need it. Just a thought that maybe helpful. Cheers Jayjan

Have you considered ceiling fans fitted under the lights?

My friend has an apartment I use regular and in the Summer, July and August when everything and everyone was baking, I thought we would struggle with the fans as it would be to hot. But I was amazed how effective they were. They do not give you a dry throat and they are very cost effective. They are also cheaper to buy and if you rent out your apartment, they cannot be abused like air con does get.

For heat in the winter, he has two small oil radiators which are excellent and do a great job.

We are fitting out our new apartment now and this is what we will use. If it does not work, which it should, then we can switch to the more costly air con units.

You can't beat the air/heat units and they are more economical than the oil radiators. They(oil) are not adequate for a lounge on colder days. If you are renting air.con is a problem as some renters don't care, they leave it on with all the windows open. An answer to this is to have a coin in the slot meter just for the air con thats what I do with my apartments.

Jackie,

when you say coin meter, how do you go about this? Is this something the people who install the air conditioning fit or do we have to do it with someone else.

Who would you recommend for air conditioning units? And at what cost?

Thanks

My management co. arranged the pay as you go units. I will try to find out for you. I had the air con units fitted by a company in Fuengirola and cost depends on the size of the room. they came out to measure. I'm told the cheapest way is to get them from Leroy Merlin DIY and get an experienced fitter to install them. Mine cost about 800 euros a room and they are panasonic (I think) Sorry if I sound a bit vague but not in spain at the moment am on holiday (its raining!!)

They are very economical and the installer told me if you don't have one thats suitable for the room then you have a higher bill.

This is what I have had done. I have one external unit running two inside wall mounted units (one living room and bedroom) in our Tenerife home. It cost us €1800 total and was fitted in just one day. Probably cheaper on the mainland. The outside unit is designed to run two inside units, but is not much bigger than a single external unit and can easily be placed in a corner of a balcony. All your local suppliers will be able to advise on this for you.

Reading through this thread, and the price is getting higher and higher!!! As the original units pauline&will mention are only 40€ each, would it not be a good idea to buy them first, and if they are adequate, they won't have wasted too much money :D

I would also like to know the make if possible, I have oilfilled radiators here in Lanzarote, and I agree, they are not adequate, especially as the weather seems to get colder every winter :(

Sorry, I meant to say "even if they are not adequate"

Madsue, I think the winters are getting colder especially last 3 or 4 years. I don't know if its the blood that gets thinner after living here a long time :)

The price i stated was the price i paid. What do you want me to do? Lie?

I don't know anywhere that sells "units". Fitted Air conditioning has two units one inside (or mare if need be) and an external compressor unit. now the inside unit may be obtained quite cheaply but show me an external compressor for less than quite a few hundred. Fitting is complicated and time consuming. Labour costs have to be taken into account.

I was told that the cheaper ones are noisy and use more electricity.

For the record we paid 2800 euros for 4 units[Thats 8 items in all]. This was in Portugal. We were very impressed with the price. I had allowed £4000 for full aircon for our apartment. :)

:( makum 110 :( was that comment necessary

I merely stated that the original poster had asked about units that would cost 40€ each, which seems to me to be incredibly cheap. And that so far no-one has commented on the original question, just on more expensive systems.

Madsue,

Your quite right. We have all been side-tracked with our own opinions and experiences here, when in fact the question was " has anybody had any experience of these units" which were 40 euros!!

I myself dived in giving my opinion without actually reading the full question, which is rude really, but not to worry. I suppose the fact that nobody has commented on these units is self-explanatory really for the original post.

It would be nice though if a unit at 40 euros did exist and was good!! Now that would be a bargain. :hyper

Hi Danz I too dived in about air conditioning advice, but I have never seen these cool/heat wall mounted units. We own on the Algarve and while I was down there last week I looked around for these units Pauline mentioned but was unable to find them. It would be interesting to know if these units are adequate to heat rooms sufficiently (If only for a bathroom/shower-room) at a price of 40 euros each.. Regards Jayjan

We have seen some wall mounted coolers/heaters in Spain that cost about 40 euros each but are not sure how effective they are. Has anyone any experience of these units (you dont seem to be able to get them in the UK) if so what are they like.

Please give us more info on these units i.e. Make, Model, Size, if they were full aircon units.

If they are as cheap as you say I would get some tomorrow.
