Just booked a one week late deal to Puerto Pollensa flying out October 10th to the 17th.
I know the weather will more than likely be unsettled but one can hope for some sunny days.
Never been to Puerto Pollensa before so i would be grateful if anyone could offer any general recommendations on....
Places to eat - daytime snacks and main evening meals.
Bars to have a nice relaxing cheap drink.
Any other info will be also welcome.
Thank you.
Now we are in various restaurants and cafe bars and not once had a bad meal in any of them. The prices were pretty reasonable considering the euro rates!
Where we stayed it was a 15 to 20minute stroll down into the main square where most of the shops/bars etc were.
A must see are the sand sculptures-these are fantastic
Hope you have a lovely time. We ae waiting to book to go back in October of next year
Shops, Supermarkets, Restaurants
Most are located in the centre of town in the streets off of the main roundabout and Pine Walk.
Eroski Supermarket.
Eroski City (small supermarket): situated on the Pollensa Rd about 100 metres up from the main roundabout.
Eroski Main (large supermarket): situated next to the large roundabout just as you enter town from the Pollensa Rd. This is the larger of the two supermarkets and is usually significantly cheaper than the local supermarkets around the town.
Good, low price restaurants.
Celler La Parra: situated on the Pollensa Rd about 1/2 way between the two Eroski supermarkets. Very good Mallorquin food with friendly service. Wine "Jarra De La Casa" (jug of house wine) is good and great value.
The Chinese "Dragon" on the Formentor road is excellent and cheap and the best value Chinese in town. Walk up the main road towards Pollensa from the large roundabout at the marina and turn right after the Banco Santander, the restaurant is directly opposite.
Many nice bars/restaurants are located around the main square behind the North Beach/Pine Walk area. After entering the North Beach/Pine Walk pedestrian area, take a left at the Hotel Daina and walk till you come to a large open square area. The Indian at the rear corner of the square is excellent.
The local market is held here in the square on a Wednesday morning.
Other good restaurants are along the length of the North Beach/Pine Walk area. "Little Italy" on the Pine Walk directly by the beach is excellent for pizzas. However, their pastas are expensive and not a lot on the plate. Wine is also overpriced. To get to it walk to the end of the North Beach pedestrian area and continue onto the Pine Walk by the beach, it's about 500 metres along on the left.
Trips/Places to visit.
All buses in all directions go from the main stop at the roundabout by the taxi rank. If you try to board at any other stops you may find the bus full.
Timetables/maps can be obtained from the Tourist Information next to the taxi rank at the main roundabout by the Marina in the centre of town (just by the bus stop). Ask for 2 bus timetables, local and to/from Palma. They also have very good free maps of the resort, Palma and the island.
Boat trip to Playa Formentor from the pier. Ticket office is by the boat moorings by the South Beach. Takes about 45 mins each way, or go by boat and return by bus, gives best of coastal and mountain views. Careful on return bus times as they are very few, 15:15 and 17:30 (check ! ) with no Sunday service. The bus stop at Playa Formentor is in the car park. Walk up from the beach and left along the road till you see the car park on your right.
On arrival at Formentor the best beach is the small narrow one to the left as you leave the boat.
Alcudia old town, Pollensa old town, Cala San Vicente, Puerto Soller (you get the tourist train to Palma from Soller, see below). All worth a visit. If going to Alcudia get off at the old town, the new town is tat.
Day trip to Palma via Puerto Soller. Get bus to Puerto Soller. Get tram from Puerto Soller to Soller (15 mins). Tram stops right outside train station. Train leaves about 2pm + or -. Be early as it is usually very busy and there is a rush for the best seats. Bus back to Puerto Pollensa leaves from the station which is underground in the same complex as the railway station. Entrance is across the road from the Soller train station on arrival in Palma.
Bus to Palma. Takes about 1 hour, lovely city, cathedral and surrounding area is a must see. On arrival, exit the station via the escalator and cross to the Plaza Espania. On the far left of the square walk down the pedestrian street, Porta Pintura, continue on down for shops or turn 2nd left into San Miquel for a lovely coffee shop, Café Cappucino, on your right about 100 metres along (walk to the back of the café for a nice open-air courtyard). Continue on San Miquel and you will eventually reach the cathedral area.
Cafes in the Plaza Major are usually good value for lunch.

What would you expect to pay for a beer in a bar at this moment in time with the poor exchange rate ?
Thanks.
Crikey prices have shot up since the last time i visited Spain.
small beer (1/2 pint) 1.30 Euros up to 1.80, large beer 2 Euros up to 4+.
However, since I only occasionally drink beer out you probably need better input from others.
