We are doing a transatlantic cruise at the end of August and I'm a bit confused about the day time dress code. Is it OK to walk around in swimsuit and shorts (shorts & t.shirt for a man)? Do you have to change from this if you want lunch? There semms to be a lot of questions about evening dress code, but not about the day time.
Many thanks in advance
Swimwear is for around the pool and nowhere else. If the pool area has a bar and you do not use the bar stewards to get your drinks, you can go up and get drinks in your swimwear, but if you go to an inside bar area appropriate dress must be worn, same for dining rooms. Yes, you still get some who try it on, but these normally get told.
Somewhere at the back of the Cunard brochure you should find dress rules.
Hope that helps.
Been on QM2 twice..shorts and t-shirt absolutely fine for all during the daytime. As previous poster said swimwear is for around the pool, although I cannot imagine any real issue in the Kings Court buffet if shorts are worn on top of swimwear. Would be surprised if the weather was good enough at sea to be dressing that way anyway!
Thank you both for your replies. I am really looking forward to this cruise, but I have never had a holiday where so much emphasis is put on your dress code . I think I have got the evenings sorted, it's just the daytime. Fingers crossed for sunny weather!
Yes, no problem with jeans in day-time.
I mentioned in an earlier post, pack an extension lead. You will need it.
If this is your first cruie, enjoy you will be back for more and you will also find that dressing up is one of the better parts. Very nice to see everyone dressed correctly for a formal dinner.
We have cruised on QM2 from newyork to southampton. Most people used their towelling dressing gowns whilst sat round the pool and indeed went into get buffet food during the day, this was the norm whether they were swimming or sunbathing we took our toweling robes supplied from the cabin and wore them during the day. There are a lot of little things that are generic to the QM2 which we have never had on other cruises, protocol if you like. They have good laundrette's on board but they tend to be on the higher floors, so if yours is either non existant or full go up a floor. When comming back from the USA if it fits in your cabin you can bring it back, no weight restrictions, one guy had two double headboards. If you buy any contraband drink or cigars on board you donot recieve it until the morning you leave, so pack your own in your case, not hand luggage. If you want your hair done book it as soon as you get on board cos from 2pm its chocablock for blowdrying for the whole cruise, some people were getting their hair done at 9.30 in the morning for the evening so could'nt go out on deck for fear of ruining their hair style. The last night of the cruise you have to pack all your luggage by 6pm so they have hire dress code for that evening and its not cheap. Anything else you wish to know just ask and i will give you a full and frank answer.
Can anyone also tell me please, how do people get chosen to dine on the captains table? I understand this is invitation only, but how do people get invited?
Thanks again.
