We're visiting Goa for the first time on 6th Jan and staying in Candolim. I've been reading some threads and must admit I'm a bit worried it might be a bit busy for us as we don't particularly like crowded beaches etc and the threads mentioning how dirty the beach is has also worried me.
Can anyone recommend any quieter beaches a short taxi drive from Candolim? We'd still like there to be beach shacks as the thought of beautiful beaches and nice food is what lured us to Goa. If anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear about them?
Many, many thanks in advance
Janette
You can get a taxi to some beaches further North, which are called Ashwam beach, Manderem beach, and a few others. The taxi ride is usually about 20mins, and the beaches are gorgeous.
There are a few beach shacks, and the the beaches are nowhere near as crowded as Calangute,Candolim.
If you are thinking of somewhere closer, then i think Anjuna beach is quite quiet, although ive only been to Anjuna beach once.
Sorry, another question - any idea of how much the taxi would cost? I'm just after a ballpark figure so I don't get ripped off.
Clicky.

Taxi prices
You should find places on Candolim beach that are quiet. Usually the beach is busiest near roads that go down to the beach. If you walk a few hundred yards in either direction you will find quieter areas.
Give it a go before you get a taxi to a quieter beach.
Don't go to Coco beach it is fine for going for a dolphin trip but bad for bathing.
It is a lovely walk on the beach trying to find a nice quiet shack.
If you want to go a bit further out, then try the beaches i mentioned.
When we were there in Jan 07 we paid approx 600-700ruppes for a return trip.
And its worth every penny, believe me ( or in this case, every ruppee lol)
Have a look on the photo galary and im sure you will find some photos of the lovely beaches.

Ahem! - just have a look a wee bit further up the page.
Vagator Beach is about 15 - 20 minutes away, bit of a climb down the cliff but well worth it, or you could get on from the coach/Taxi stop in between Big and little Vagator
Our plan I think will be to spend our first day on Candolim beach but as these other places look so wonderful I have a feeling we'll be making the trips to them all whether we like Candolim or not.
Thanks everyone for your help, that's what I like about this forum you're all so helpful and knowledgable.
