I'll be in Icmeler for the 6th time in September 2009 for 2 weeks. Can't wait!!
Hello All,
We will also go to Side in March if we get a good deal!
has anyone booked bitez yet.i am booked for may but with the economy in the state it is in i am wondering if there is anyone going?
just think if nobody goes then you'll have the place to yourself !! pool - restaurants - bars - it would be heaven
it would be heaven my own beach but then you have to think i would be hassled into going into every restaurant along the beach!!
We aren't going to Bitez but we are probably going somewhere round the Bodrum peninsular, maybe Gumusluk. We are just organising at the moment.
i have been to gumusluk before and although it is very pretty with a lot of seafood restaurants, there is not alot to do.i went into the water and waded across to an island in the middle called rabbit island, not surprisingly there was no rabbits but there was not anything else either.but if you do decide to go there and go to rabbit island wear old flip flops as they will get wet in the water
Have booked flights to Bodrum in April, June and September - will be staying in our house in Gumbet. Hoping to go out next new year again. Hopefully may be able to fit in another hol over there sometime - the trouble is, work keeps getting in the way!!
Where are you staying in Bitez? I really like Bitez too, I have stayed there a few times.
Jakki, that is the problem with work isn't it Flights are so expensive this year too, I think we will ony go once this year now that we have to pay full price for our youngest that means four seats each time now, it's so annoying having to pay full price for a 2 year old
I booked last week to go to Taba in Egypt on 20th January. I've now read that Egypt is on high terrorism alert, so I really don't want to go there. I'm hoping they'll allow me to change my destination.
Taking some more family with us this year.
you make gumusluk sound like heaven and you are right it is very peaceful and beautiful there.the water is so clear but it is like that everywhere in turkey and the dolmus service is very good so as you said you can go into bodrum at any time.
i stay in the manuela hotel when im in bitez and i have made some nice friends there, but maybe i will give gumusluk another try.i am bringing a baby for the first time this year as i m expecting soon.do you have any advice on how best to look after a baby there
How old will you baby be when you go? I took my daughter over first when she was 8 weeks. Will you be breastfeding or bottle feeding? If you are bottle feeding then take your milk with you as you can't get all the milks over there and it is expensive. You can get Pampers nappies, they are called Prima and I think you ca get Huggies now too, although I used Turkish brands; Molfix, Evy Baby or Can Baby were all just as good. You will get wipes but not nappy sacks so take some of them with you. It shouldn't be so hot in May but take lots of baby sun cream as you wont find it out there. I bought a canopy for my pushchair and a piece of material with a couple of pegs so I could cover her up completely in the sun, a sarong would do just the same. If it is hot give baby some cooled boiled water if she is thirsty and splash Johnsons baby cologne over her, you can get it in the supermarkets or pharmacies.
I think Manuela have mosquito netting over the windows but buy one of those little plugs just in case too. Ask them to give you a fan for the room too if it is hot at night, they are quite helpful, they even gave me and my friend a fridge when we asked (that was bfore they went off us !)
I used to wash my baby in a washing up bowl when she was tiny, yo can get all the Johnsons stuff there too so you don't need to carry it with you.
I think the main thing is just to keep baby cool and out of the sun, you will be fine and everyone will love her (or him), you will get loads of little pins with lucky eyes on given to you.

A bit of a mixed bag in terms of reviews on other sites (can't find any here?) but with Credit crunch and all that, I had to book thinking of the pennies, it was the cheapest I have seen hence the reason I snapped it up! Other prices and places were £2500 to £3000 but at least it will get us away and hopefully will save enough pennies to eat out if it is really bad.
I don't know how old your baby will be when you're there so it's difficult to know what tips to give. We got a sun-shade thingy for her buggy which had a mosquito net built in. When we went out in the evening for a meal, we had a blanket which we used to put completely over the buggy so it was nice and dark for Chloe to sleep (no, we weren't out late but she was asleep at 7pm).
The Turkish love children and are so good with them. When we went into a restaurant, they were quite happy to move tables and chairs so that Chloe's buggy (and her in it) was quite safe next to us. We're lucky as we have a house in Gumbet so Chloe has her own cot (with mosquito net) over there and we bought a baby bath (only 12 lira) as well. My OH and me were there for new year and whenever we met someone we knew, their first question was how's the baby. They can't wait until she goes back in June to see how she's grown up (she'll be 11 months by then).
I would say that you really don't need to worry about having a little one over there - in most ways it's easier than here in England if you want to go out (we never get such attentive service over here when we have Chloe in her buggy - she's more looked on as a nuisance sometimes). Enjoy!!
thank you for all your advice it is all very helpful.my baby will be 8 weeks old when i plan on going there, and until now i was very worried she might be too young but now i can go with confidence.i just hope others are going there too as i dont want to be hassled into going into every restaurant if i am the only one there.i know that the turkish love babies and are all over them i have seen it when i have been there.seeing as though my baby is half turkish i dont think i will be able to move with the attention.does anyone know of a quiet hotel to stay at?i usually stay in the manuela but with temple bar attached,it might not be suitable now so i am looking for advice on a child friendly, nice, quiet hotel.any suggestions?
Emily, Basri Apartments are really nice, they are set back a bit from the beach but just a few minutes from Manuela. It is really quiet there and the rooms are lovely. I have stayed there a couple of times and my parents stayed there too and loved it. My girls are half Turkish too so yes your little one will get loads and loads of attention!
