We recentley returned from a short stay at the Balmoral hotel in Benalmadena, for mid October the weather was fantastic, we were able to go in the pool and the sea. We spent three days in the area, one day we hired bikes and cycled along the coast as far as the outskirts of Malaga, another day we went up on the cable car and saw the birds of prey display which was really good as the presenter spoke really clear in both Spanish and English, and on the third day we caught the train to Fuengirola.
We caught the train from the airport to Arroyo and as it was a very pleasant evening and we had light luggage we walked down the hill to the Balmoral. The hotel was very quiet, we had the pool to ourselves when we used it. There were quite a few people on the promenades and beaches and around the marina during the day.
On the evenings we would walk up to Arroyo and wander round the tapas bars, some of the bars provided excellent tapas such as really nice salads or mini hamburgers with their cañas. A taxi back down the hill was 5.50 euro.
All in all a very enjoyable trip, we're flying to Malaga again in a few weeks time but will maybe hire a car from the airport and stay in Nerja from where we can visit the Sierra Nevada.

Glad you had a good time and the good weather held out for you.
IMO:The cable car is worth every penny, well euros, and I don't know why it took me so long to do it because I'm not afraid of heights, just heights involved with moving things....I don't suppose I would have done it if it wasn't for Glynis.
Did they bring out the mother eagle owl and her new baby,? Stunning and so cute....won't be a baby for long.

Hi sanji,
I don't much like heights, the stange thing is that I hate going up on cable cars but don't mind coming back down on them Yes they brought out the mother and baby, they also now have a very impressive looking Condor which I believe joined them about three weeks prior to our visit and although displayed it wasn't allowed to fly on the day of our visit.
There was a fire somewhere behind Benalmadena Costa while we were there, must have been tues 18/10, we could hear and see helicopters flying over and dropping water on the area, I tried googling for info but didn't find anything, if you see anything about it online would you be kind enough to post a link, thanks.

Many thanks for the reviews Andy, they are appreciated.
Thanks for the links Sanji, I can almost read the spanish one, some good photos too.
I think the Teleferrico is one of the most under-rated attractions available on the Costa Del Sol. Many people I speak to don't even know it is there, or that there is a wild bird sanctuary at the top
