If you like Alcudia, you may like Pollensa even more. Depending on when in August, a stay there could coincide with the Patrona fiesta which is quite something. Hotels in Pollensa are limited to small "interior" hotels or the grand Son Brull, unless one opts for Puerto Pollensa (where direct booking of hotels may be a bit tricky). If it sounds interesting, ask again and I can maybe point you in the direction of some hotels, or quite probably others will have suggestions. With the new motorway, Pollensa is now about 40 mins to Palma, not much longer than from Port Soller.

Port de Soller is a very spanishy resort, the only English bar the Claridge was closed last season, regular poster Pippa spoke very highly of the Hotel es Port and it certainly has an excellent reputation, we have stayed at the Eden twice a year for the last three years and although it does not suit some we have no complaints. I personally think that you would have to book direct with the Es Port and suggest for the Eden you look at Winter Sunshine Holidays. Buses run very regularly through the tunnel to Palma the fare is 2.80€. Soller it's self is a delight and trams run between the town and the port , the train to Palma is also very popular.

Just talking about the place gives me a great feeling and we look forward to February when we once again will be walking in the Tramuntana.

Have a great time wherever you wander good luck,
Dave.

Thanks for the replies guys.

What are the good and bad points of Eden? I had looked at it last year but ended up in Alcudia. I assume Port De Soller has a good selection of restaurants etc. We generally only book B&B as we enjoy eating out in the evenings.

For me the Eden represents terrific value for money and although the catering is not the best it has more good points, the superior rooms overlooking the pool and the port are the best, if you are staying B and B, there are many excellent restuarants serving Mallorquin cuisine and of course excellent fish. There have been several alterations to the port area which are an attempt to make the resort upmarket and of course this will push up prices. Not so many English people stay in the resort but since we started going there does seem an increase. This is the real Mallorca just great.

I've booked for my second visit to Puerto Pollensa next year, we really liked it there and it does sound what you are looking for. We stayed in apartments last year but I've booked a hotel for next year which I managed to book direct with the hotel, sorry I can't recommend the hotel as I've never stayed there myself before :D
