Hi everyone,
My wife and I are planning a holiday for later in the summer (late August/early September) and are very undecided on where to go.
We usually go to Majorca and have really enjoyed our holidays there but would like to try somewhere different this year.
We are both in our early thirties and not really into clubbing but enjoy and good meal (authentic rather than British food) and quiet drink. Ideally we would like to be close to a beach and also close to the centre of the town (walking distance) or at least close to good restaurants/bars. It doesn't have to be a bustling resort, mush prefer somewhere more quaint and unspoilt.
We are happy to either stay in self catering or in a hotel (probably B&B) and don't mind if the hotel is large or small, recently we have stayed in a few boutique hotels and really enjoyed the quietness and privacy. Three or four star would be ideal and we are on a bit of a budget this year (aren't we all)!
We are from N Ireland therefore it will probably have to be through one of the main tour operators as we can't do a DIY as there are not budget flights to Cyprus.
I would really appreciate any recommendations of resort/hotel/apartment combinations that I can read some reviews on. There is so much information about that it is hard to filter down and our local travel agents are less than helpful/knowledgeable!
Finally, what is the weather likely to be like in early September?
Thanks in advance
Darren
which is your favourite resort in majorca, that would give us a clye as to your best places the weather will be warmer and drier than majorca.
Favourite towns/resorts are Puerto Soller, Pollensa Old Town and Alcudia (port area)
My wife and son are on £10 Liverpool/Belfast returns next weekend - if the prices are much cheaper for DIY it might be worth considering a flight over ?
John
I had thought about that but I travel a lot with work to and from N Ireland and UK and experience a lot of delays and see a lot of very unhappy people when they miss their connecting flight onto their holiday destination and they have no comeback on easyjet.
Err, we've done DIY for years and have never been on a budget flight. Not to Cyprus, anyway.
Take a look at Pissouri or Polis, they may be the sort of place you are looking for. The weather is normally still very hot at the beginning of September, cooling down a bit towards the end of the month. Any thunderstorms will probably not last that long at that time of year, the locals would probably wish otherwise, as they have an acute water shortage at the moment.
