We went to Playa Blanca in August and stayed at the Rubicon Palace. It was out of Playa Blanca and was a fair walk but quick by taxi. We went half board and upgraded to AI. There were 6 pools and plenty kids activities etc. We were only a short walk from the Playa Flamingo's Beach and supermarket with a variety of restaurants round there too. Really enjoyed it.

we are going back to matagorda in april next year, with toddlers, a pensioner, three teens, and a few couples aged between 25 and 45... and there is always something for everyone to do in that resort, plus it is very pedestrianised, so a lot safer if you have little ones who manage to do a 100yrd sprint faster than an olympic medallist!
