Hello
I have just returned from a week away in a seaside town called St Cyprien (not far from Perpignan in the south west), and I just wanted to recommend it very highly to anyone travelling with a dog (or without one for that matter !)
St Cyprien is a lovely resort, it has everything for a nice relaxing holiday but what made it extra good for us that we were able to take our dog everywhere we wanted. There are two big beautiful beaches either side of a big marina, and dogs are allowed on the big eastern beach (the other beach is reserved for families). And dogs are welcomed in the bars and restaurants.
I know this won´t be of much interest to members generally, but as a dog owner I know how hard it is to find somewhere just right to take him. And St Cyprien ticked every single box.

Not at all Sue! A lot of people find it hard to leave their pets when they go on holiday and in particularly dog owners! France has a lot of dog lovers - they are even allowed into restaurants as long as they sit quietly under the table, and many restauranteurs are happy to give them a bowl of water and some tasty morsels! - and it will reassure a lot of Brits that they can take their pooches with them.
That said, do make sure that you have advised your ferry company that you are travelling with a dog - there's usually some box to tick on the reservation form - and make sure that your pet passport is valid and your dog's vaccinations are up to date. French supermarkets have shelves full of dog food in all forms and flavours, so you don't need to worry about bringing supplies from the UK with you. You might even find it a bit cheaper over here, and when stocking up with wine and coffee for your return trip, you might even lay in a supply of delights for your dog as holiday souvenirs!
did you try Argeles and Collioure whilst you were down there they are also dog friendly
St Cyprien Plage is a georgeous place nearly as nice as Canet Plage at this time especially for kite flyers and surfers and don'tthe dogs just love them sands
Yes, we did go to Argeles, and Collioure, both lovely places, and Banyuls, that whole stretch of coast is wonderful.
We are going back in a few weeks, and will go to Canet this time - are dogs allowed on the beach there ? We live in Spain, so its a fairly easy drive for us. Dogs are out of bounds on all the beaches here, you can get away with an early morning run on the sand in winter but not from Easter onwards. So when our Pepe saw the beach at St Cyprien he thought he was in heaven.
And as Alsacienne says, the restaurants and cafes make dogs welcome, more than once he got a drink before we did !
(Pepe is a sort of sheepdog crossed with lurcher and about 100 other breeds - we found him last year when he was a puppy, tied to a tree, half starved with an eye infection....).

We are finding some ( not many) restaurants in the UK allowing dogs in too which is really nice for our little attention magnet but then she's a Shih Tzu and now 11 years old even she loves kids but can only lick 3 at once
