My highly recommended for those in Playa Blanca is the 'Port of call' in the Faro Park area, close to the well known Lighthouse Cafe and Snug bar.
Ok so there's no sea view but the quality, quantity and price of the food is outstanding.
Don't be fooled by the location of the bar which is located above a Spar supermarket everything about the bar is first class. it has indoor or out door dining and also has a shaded area if the sun becomes to much for you during the day.
As for location it is right at the end of Puerto Del Carmen going towards the airport. We did use a taxi from the old town and it cost about 4 Euros.
We found that the drinks matched what most bars charged at 2 Euro for a pint but we received a complementary sample nibbles with each purchase of a drink.
Don't leave your visit to this bar to the last days of your holiday or you will regret it.
We did visit for an evening meal we had a 3 course meal with wine followed by 1 litre of sangria which watching the evening entertainment, the cost for two people was about 60 Euro which included a tip.
If you like to eat early they do a set (with a few choices from the main menu) 3 course menu for 15 Euros if you dine before 7pm, which is excellent value giving the quality of the food.
Drop me a line if you would like any further information an I will try to give you an answer
Craig
Agree with you there Craig An excellent restaurant and and interesting menu. My daughter liked the cocktails too!!! I was worried that they wouldn't be too pleased that we took my grandson and his pushchair up, and that we then sat in the cosy sofas, but there were no problems, and luckily grandson slept through both the meal and the music
They say a new indian res has opend at calero good reports so must give it a try
To be honest most of the restuarants and cafes in Calero are well worth a visit,
although disappointingly the chinese tried it on with the bill once which was bad
enough but the responce after questioning the bill (how dare we!) meant they
no longer have our custom. We used to visit twice a month so it was their loss.
cheers
Keith
Hi where is the best place to go and eat fresh fish in Playa Blanca..........preferably somehwhere we can sit and see the sea!!! Oh and its child friendly (they eat anything but i mean somewhere that doesnt mind kids being there)
regards tracey
I know it's been a while since your post, Craig, but where about is Cafe Carmen? You say above a Spar, but do you know what street it is on? Thanks x
The restaurant is across from the Hawaiian bar......top end towards San Antonio . There are some cracking eating places that end.
We go 10/3 to 17/3....not long now.
Hi desdemona!

I know! I am so pleased we're arriving on carnival day! We land at 1750, so should just be getting settled when it really gets going!
Some bad heads expected Sunday.
I know this is but GQB, if you are staying in your usual place, get down to the Fariones end as soon as you can to see the best of the carnival
And back on topic, I walked past the chinese restaurant New World today, up the Fariones end of PDC, and saw they are now serving a sushi menu!!! Has anyone tried it yet?
Sue, I like sushi, but I would be very reluctant to try it in a lot of Chinese places on PDC. We're not staying at out usual place, but I plan on walking down to the carnival.
Yes, that is what I'm wondering. I go to the Nippon, but as New World is roughly where the carnival parade will stop, I was hoping someone had already tried it there!! Save my feet again, and I'm sure they would be quite willing for me to eat in there in costume
What costume would that be Sue ?
errrr.....its actually none of them
Can anyone tell me if Romantica restaurant in Playa Blanca is still in the same place ( first floor overlooking shopping street) or has it moved? Is it still as good as it was?? Thanks
For fish its either El Golfo, Restaurante Costa Azul or Terrano.... Fantastic food matched by amazing views...the best sunsets on the island! ... or Playa Quemada and the restaurante SalMarina, our favourite... the sloppy bogavante paella is scrumptious!
In Puerto Calero we go for Mexican at Las Margaritas, situated up on the first floor overlooking the Marina. The Indian, Fazzs is enjoyable too.
In PDC more spice at TJs caribbean Tapas Bar, great authentic food , not to be missed!
For tapas its the Ermita in Tias everytime and theres a pizza place just down the road from it, I cant remember what its called, but its on the corner, fantastic! Theres a small tapas bar next door to Cafe Del Mar at the Marina Rubicon in PB thats worth a visit too.
La Cabana in Macher is special as is the restaurant in Bodegas Stratus, attached to the winery in La Geria. Wonderful!
Uga Bodega, the restaurant with the puffin outside is another place we enjoy, no menus here but a lovely atmosphere and food of the finest quality, simply but beautifully cooked.
Last but not least, the restaurant Arena which is situated in Los Mojones in PDC, another very special place... after feasting you can go lay by the pool and let dinner go down!
