Sent ours off for renewal on 7th August (did not use check and send service) and they were returned on the 29th...can't grumble about that!! HOWEVER.....we did request 48 page passports and only mine came back 48 page,the other was standard passport.

sent mine of on the 27th October mine and a first passport for my daughter and we use check and send in the PO and they said it would be 10days still nothing

If you live near a regional passport office it is worth taking it personally rather than posting it.
We did this and got it back within a week.
