hi,
me and my girlfriend are visiting here at end of june. What is resort like ? Is it full of gay bars ?
not my sort of thing and didnt know until after we'd booked. Each to their own and that just wondered
if torremolinos is all this as it says that beaches are gay beaches too.
cheers for any help

I've no doubt that there may be gay bars in the resort. Is it full of gay bars ?
never seen evidence of this.beaches are gay beaches too
Just want some decent food / sun & chilled irish type bars. thanks anyway for reply. Sol principle here we come
here but I see you are going to the Sol Principe hotel which is well out of the way from them. I must admit i never noticed them so they cannot be the "in your face type" and perhaps are low key and only those in the know will have any idea where they are.
But on a brighter note you'll love the Sol Principe it has a great restaurant and you're spoiled for choice in the evening. One point it is a family hotel and has apartments attached ( Sol Principito) so there will be children about. When we were there it had a Flintstones theme and I'm not sure if this has changed. There is also a small shopping mall in the hotel and internet computers available. If you go through the hotel and come out the exit at the beach side just a little way up the road ro the right is a small beach place called a chiringuitos where you can get good food at a reasonable cost and also the speciality seafood dish of fresh anchovies usually done over a charcoal fire of logs. I do hope this new developement will not put you off going as I did enjoy my two weeks in Torremolinos and the bars along the front are OK.
Whitey It seems that there is indeed quite a list of gay bars in Torremolinos as witness this map But on a brighter note you'll love the Sol Principe it has a great restaurant and you're spoiled for choice in the evening. Sure it will be fine only going for a week to get bit of sun and a break. Dont mind kids knocking about prefer family places.
thanks for info

The Sol Principito s/c apts are closed and are being ripped out. We were there for three weeks in Jan. very few kids in the hotel, and can confirm that the restaurant is first class. Rooms and maid service A1. Some refurbishment going on to Bloque B but all the noisy work was done while we were there so you should have a nice week. Didn`t see any evidence of gays anywhere......
Torremolinos does not have a larger gay community than any other town. The main gay area of Torremolinos is centred around La Nogalera, near the train station and San Miguel street.
Re the sol Principito apartments, I do hope they're redesigning the "kitchen in the cupboard" because that's the only thing I could find wrong with these apartments, when we stayed there.
Re gays, Torremolinos is gay friendly, but they and the bars tend to be clustered in the town itself near the main street (San Miguel)and I've never had them "in your face" but you will see the odd flamboyant ones strutting their stuff on occasions, but I've never seen them in the Playamar area where the Sol Principle is situated because they go up into the town at night or if they are there, I'm obviously walking around with a blindfold on, day and night.
However, there is a section of the beach called the "Poseidon beach" near(ish) the Hotel Sol Principe and this was known as a gay beach and today is the nearest you'll get to a gay beach....they congregate on different sections of the beach at various times of the year, so although your mates were correct, it depends what your attitude is to this group of people, they certainly won't be interested in you with your girlfriend on your arm.
Just go and enjoy yourself and turn a blind eye to things you may/may not like

I`m looking at the Beach Club for April but I`m a bit worried about the reports of sickness in the hotel. BTW the "girl friend" is my 74 yr old wife and she is tickled pink to be called G.F.LOL
Mick I'm having a senior moment only the first line was meant for you, as I thought you said the apartments were being ripped out..... sorry hun The rest of the post was intended for the original poster and I forgot to say his name.

I hope you and your girlfriend enjoy your holiday in the Costa Del Sol and please give us a review on your return. You can add your review by clicking on the Hotel Review link at the top of the page.

the talked of hotel 12-13 times as a guest, and lots more visiting.will be there in may this year visiting.
as far as gays?,i saw a couple in the town towards Benal, near lidls ,very discreetly holding hands, like anywhere in the world, unlike youngsers eating each other, who if i had my way would have a bowl of water to cool them down.Someone has totally mis-informed you.enjoy ,it is just someone trying to put you off enjoying yourselves, but always be aware as said with your bags.
