Hi All

As it's 2 years since we visited Corralejo I was wondering if some of the reviews are still relevant. Last time we tried a lot of PeacockRocks' recommendations and were not disappointed. Does anyone know if our favourite Mirando Al Sur is still as good? We also enjoyed Marquesina and Meson Eve. Hopefully we will try Los Pepes or La Bodeguita Al Andaluz this time. Have they changed hands or anything recently?

If anyone could post some more recent reviews please I would be very grateful. Also some ideas on price would be good.
Thanks very much,
Jean

Hi,

We have just got back from Corralejo and had a great time yet again.

Because of the poor exchange rate we didn't go into some of the more expresive restraunts and we economised a little.

Some of the best we went to are The Point, in Hoplaco Gardens, excellent food, only about 5 starters and 5 main courses (which changes weekly) and a special board, the Fresh tuna with potato wedges and salad is to die for €10.80.

If you like Tapas try La Notaria, 5 tapas, 2 small beers and bottle white wine €27

Or La Terraza Canaria 5 Tapas, 2 small beers and 2 glasses white wine €38

If you are looking for something really, really cheep try Da Uli, we went there twice, first time had Lasagne, 2 beers, 2 glasses wine €16.70 and second time white fish in sauce covered with sliced potatoes, broccolli and carrots, 2 beers and glasses 2 wine for €18.60. It is really tasty food but is cafe atmosphere rather than restraunt, well worth a try.

Manolos, free bread and alio, free cheese, then had fillet steak & chips and hake medallions with canary pots, 2 large beers 2 glasses wine, can't remember the price but it was less than €30

Los Pepes is closed now and we didn't go to La Bodeguita Al Andaluz or Merando Del Sur as I say we were economising.

Hi Simmey

Thanks a lot for that. We will be economising too. I've noted your recommendations. Heard about Da Uli on another website. Sounds good.

Cheers, Jean

Hi all,
I am still around but cannot afford to eat out as much due to credit crunch.
Re this go into La Tahona in the music square at the moment they are doing 2 for the price of 1 on all main courses between 6pm and 9pm. Our friends were over the week before last and we went there.
We had 1 fillet steak, 1 fillet steak kebab, 1 langoustines and 1 chicken stroganoff. 1/2 litre house wine, 2 pints, water 1 coke and 3 coffees, bill was 44 euros for the 4 of us. Brilliant!!

Hi,
It has been a while since I posted a restaurant review and I thought it was about time I did another.
Reading previous posts over again has been enlightening. Here is an update on some of the old favourites.
Los Pepes is no longer there it has changed into an Italian restaurant that does reasonably priced good tasty food, have not tried it myself but have heard good reviews.
Mirando Al Sur, Meson Eve, and Namaste Indian have gone.
La Mama has moved into the same street as the Big Ben shopping centre, food is still tops.
Tio Bernabe has moved up the street to the old Meson Eve site. There are no cobbles in the street any more, the local council saw fit to rip up all of the old character of the music square and street behind and have ruined it in my opinion. :cry
All of the chinese restaurants are outdoing each other in the amount of choice on the menu. The biggest and best is the SlowBoat II in the Plaza centre. Infintesimal number of choices and you can pick a bowl full of fresh ingredients and take them to be cooked on the Wok with a choice of 9 sauces. Huge King Prawns, squid, whole fish, all the meats and loads of veg to choose from . Also an extensive buffet display, all for 10.95 a head- drinks are a rip off though 1.95 for 1 50cl bottle of water - hello!!
Here is my latest review for you all
Bombay Indian
Run by the delightful Rekha this place is brilliant. It used to be found near the Hiperdino in the old town but has since moved into the music square. We have had a couple of new indians open up in Corralejo recently. Namely Fazz's on the harbour and Amber , however Bombay remains my firm favourite for a couple of reasons.
The food is excellent and the service is second to none. The menu is massive and you won't be disappointed.
Starters are great, huge portions of food with good prices. I have tried Prawn Puri which has proper sized prawns in a spicy sauce at 4.90: Chicken tikka, succulent pieces of chicken with loads of tasty onions served on a sizzling platter at 4.50: onion bhajees at 3.50: vegetable samosas at 3.50 and the Hara Bara Kebab which is spinach patties with paneer cheese, peas and cashew nuts, all delicately spiced and served with beetroot at 4.50
Main courses are the usual fare, however you pay one price for every chicken dish at 8.50, lamb 9.50, prawns 10.50, king prawns 14.00 etc no matter which sauce you have. So that is good. There are lots of special curry dishes such as the Prawn Angara which is hot sauce mixed with garlic, pepper, onions and strawberry paste at 12.50
There is also a huge tandoori menu to choose from, rice dishes start at 2.50, nans are from 1.95 and there is a big vegetarian choice at 5.90 for a big portion or 2.95 for a side dish portion.
Rekha is aware that there is a bit of a credit crunch going on and has made some specials.
We have tried these over the last few days because they are new and the portion sizes are exactly the same as those on the main menu, so really great value. The cheapest special is onion bhajee followed by vegetable curry served with either nan rice or chapatis for 5.95!! The most expensive, which I have had twice because it is so fab is chicken tikka followed by King Prawn Karai with rice, nan or chapati for 12.95 !!!!! How does she do it? Set Menu for 2 is 29.95 and menu for 4 is 49.95 and it is brilliant.
Wine is not expensive, neither are the other drinks on the menu.
We had a bottle of wine, two specials, popadoms, coffees and free liqueurs on the house and the bill was less than 35 euros.
Please go and give it a try, reservations can be made on 928537680 and they deliver. They are open every day from 12 to 3 and evenings 6 to 12.
