Hope you enjoy it. You really are spoilt for choice in Cala Bona (and neighbouring Cala Millor). What type of restaurant do you like. Are you looking for local or English cuisine. Do you have children with you and if so are they fussy eaters?
Any ideas?
First Sun Holiday - can't wait to get out of here too - one rain/hale storm after another!
Thanks again!
Try Janet and Johns overlooking the harbour in Cala Bona. The food is fantastic. We will probably be there one evening next week even though we are staying in Sa coma at an all-inclusive hotel. The food is so good, we just can,t miss out on at least one meal there. This will probably be about our 5th visit to this restaurant in the last 2 years. Maybe we will see you there!
On the back road (Na Llambies) there's the London Inn & Caledonian Carvery.
If you get chance try and have a meal in Cheers (Cala Millor). Say "Hi" to Kev for us and there's also the Beachboys Bar on seafront in Cala Millor - can heartily recommend their brunch! Yummmmmmm
Thank you all for your suggestions! Janet and John's seems to be a popular place to go - can you tell me more about the kind of food they do and aptmosphere. Also can you recommend a good supermarket in the area (we are advised to avoid the one in our hotel).
Hi Suzanne. Where are you staying in Sa Coma? We are hoping to go in October but a lot of the accommodation is apartments? Thought half board/all inclusive might work out a bit cheaper
Pargaluva - We are staying at the Vista Badia, which is on the same site as the Safari Park in Sa Coma. I know from previous that you have stayed at the Safari Park, so you will remember where it is. We think that we have got a very good deal going all-inclusive. It is costing us about £1100 for 11 nights for 2 adults and 2 children. We are not expected to need much spending money on top of this. The quality of the food in both of these hotels is excellent, so we know that it will be good.
For pizzas we went to a restaurant called Milanos on the sea front (just round from Janet and Johns). Nice pizzas and a lovely setting on an evening.
Think I'll try Cheers on Tisonlymoi's recommendation this year and I'll leave her to recommend the brunch at Beachboys (I'm a bit biased as my brother works there)
Sure you'll have a lovely time (the weather's been gorgeous for the last couple of weeks).
For fussy eaters Cheers in Cala Millor is definitely worth a try (our favourite haunt) - extensive menu, kids pick'n'mix menu and plenty for the kids to do if you want to enjoy the rest of your meal in some sort of peace.
We haven't actually eaten at Janet & Johns but it looks okay.
To be fair in and around the harbour, along the sea front promenade and the back road there must be at least a hundred restaurants - for vegetarians a new bar opened last year (Oasis Bar) back road from Levante Park.
Most places have their menu on display outside so you can see what they offer and their prices.
Personally I'd say choose somewhere for your first night and then have a wander round afterwards and see where gets busy and who's food looks the nicest
There's also a canny supermarket just past the harbour heading up to what was the Sunwing resort - it's on the front next to a perfume shop and does the most delish freshly baked rolls and croissants on a morning (still piping hot if you get there on time). Prices are quite reasonable too.
Avoid the many Spar supermarkets as they tend to be expensive by comparison.
There's a Syp supermarket in Cala Millor and a big Syp on outskirts of resort (you'd need to go via taxi to get there/back) but I should imagine things would be even cheaper there as it's more aimed at the locals.
Hi Suzanne. We have stayed at the Safari and Vista Badia and loved them both. When we go in October there will be my friend and her three girls and me and my son which will mean I will have underoccupancy charges (which work out quite expensive ). I assume even if you take the half board or all inclusive option you still pay under occupancy or maybe they have double/twin rooms? I think this is the case in the Safari but I think you have to book direct to get the option of room without self catering facilities. We did DIY last year but to be honest it didnt work out much cheaper than the offers Portland had in September/October.
Thanks Suzanne, Tippi and TisOnlyMoi (merci beaucoup) - you have all been great with your suggestions-we'll choose a place between now and Saturday and look forward to a nice meal after the journey. Am travelling from Dublin and the last two weeks have been torrential non-stop rain so thanks Tippi for the bit of sunshine encouragement!
Thanks Tis for your info about the vegetarian restaurant, it might please my daughter! Also the supermarket that sells freshly baked rolls and croissants - might try that if the kids are peckish at lunchtimes! It is the one gripe I have had about Cala Bona, the apparent lack of a nice a bakery. I think you know more about Cala Bona than my brother!
Smugglers is okay - went a few times in 2004 but last year only had one meal last year and it wasn't as nice if I'm honest so didn't go back again. It's nice if you just want to have a drink tho' and watch the world go by - in 2004 on the Sunday the cars weren't parked up on the harbour road and all the restaurants moved their tables across the road and that was lovely but it didn't seem to happen last year - why I don't know.
The supermarket is only little (not the size of Bip)and has a very narrow frontage altho' shop is quite long and they stock a fair selection of stuff and reasonably priced too. Those rolls and croissants are to die for - I think I used to go for 8am and always had them piping hot with marg and Hero strawberry jam. Mmmmmmmmmm!
Not sure what prices are like at Oasis Bar as they only just opened while we were there - think they're only open evenings altho' it's been a year they may have extended their opening hours. Looked nice - certainly spent some time and money on it from what we could see. To get it to it walk up the side of the Levante Park (btn Levante Park & cycle place on corner) and you come to a little roundabout - it's right across the road (1 oclcok) as you stand at roundabout so not too far out of the way.
Another place if the kids get peckish is to go to Eileen & Pedros' supermarket (take a left at that roundabout) and walk down towards Cala Millor just past Chubbies bar - they have gorgeous croissants and more English looking breadbuns and they have a chiller cabinet with various meats and they do sandwiches to order. DH swears by them!
Right best go and get on with the housework - TTFN
Thanks Everyone for your great suggestions - am sitting here printing them out and I can see myself running up and down the footpaths pointing here and there (and embarressing my kids to death) saying "oh look - that's the one 'tisonlymoi', 'tippi' or 'suzanne' suggested - lets try there! Now if I can only start the packing...
Have a fantastic time - I wish it was me going this weekend we have 70 days to go (and counting).
Hi All, I Am Going Next Friday For A Week, Trouble Is I Won't Have Enough Time To Try All These Great Sounding Places Out, Will Be Trying Cheers, Janet And Johns, And Others Can't Wait, Cheers Tel.
