Im flying from East Midlands. Our new flight times are flying out at 7:30am on the 10th and our return flight is now 1:30am on the 11th. I suppose the only advantage of our changed flights is we get an extra half days holiday - id still rather my return flight was still 4:30pm on the 10th though!
Where are you staying?
Kiotari the hotel is called sumthing like Rodos maris mitsis Hotel not sure if thats right!
Going to pefkos on 10th.May,can anyone tell me what Rhodes airport is like?Well obviously I know it has aeroplanes etc!! just wondered if we can expect to have any delays with baggage or anything,Thanks
The airport can be a bit of a nightmare but they do have extra carousels working now and it's still early in the season so fingers crossed. I'm going on the 10th. too. Where are you flying from?
The airport is fairly small and last year there was a fair bit of building work going on to upgrade it. When you land you will be taken from the plane to the terminal in a shuttle bus. Just inside the building is the immigration desks to check passports and then you are into the arrivals hall. There are either 4 or 5 baggage carousels, there are screens above them telling you what flights baggage are coming onto each one. Sometimes the baggage appears before the screens are updated but the hall is compact enough to flit from one carousel to another to keep an eye out for your luggage. Luggage tends to appear quicker during the day then at night. Then straight out of the door to your rep to find coach number or get in a taxi to resort. From entering the terminal to being outside is less than 100 yards. Taxi rank and coach park were right outside the door. Coming home check in is less efficient than over here, all luggage is x-rayed prior to check in and there were only a couple of machines that everybody had to go through. To try to control the queues some coach loads were kept outside the building this meant that by the time they were through x-ray time was tight and the reps were running up and down the line putting luggage labels on bags to get people through check in in time. Once through in to the departure lounge with it being small it always looks crowded. There are some shops, but beware the announcements are not always easy to hear so keep your eyes on the monitors for your call to gate. Then on to the shuttle bus to the plane.. On day flights we normally take about 45 minutes from leaving the plane to leaving the airport building to coach or taxi, night flights seem a little longer. Return flights have always left pretty much on time. Overall it is no worse than any small airport and a lot better than most (Zante springs to mind). Enjoy your time in Rhodes, treat your passage through the airport as part of your holiday experience. If your staying in Pefkos try a trip into Lindos, well worth the effort and a good night out.
Hi Anne 160b we're flying from Birmingham,
Thanks very much for all the info Mike, very helpful,Cheers,
Well it looks no worse than Corfu airport!
As with all small airport, it's worth travelling independently, that way you've got no reps telling you what to do and where to stand
Sue
A good tip - once you have checked in your luggage. if you have plenty of time before your departure time, take a walk south of the airport to the local village and enjoy a beer or bite to eat at one of the local Tavernas. Only about a 10 minute walk from the Airport.
How early can you check in? I like the idea of leaving the airport after check-in and having a drink somewhere else. I always did that for the caribbean overnight flights - check in then go out for a nice meal and then go to sleep as soon as the plane took off. The thing is that is flying scheduled airlines and so checking in was possible 3 or 4 hours ahead. We are travelling independently so can go to the airport whenever we like.
