Hi

Have you tried the hotel's own WEBSITE?

You'll find the email address on the Bachata page, I'm sure they'd be able to answer any questions for you.

hi all, i am taking my girl friend to the bachata, flying this friday.

i was under the influence from each travel agent it was an amazing hotel but after reading the reviews dotted arround the internet, im now a bit unsire to how 5* the place is going to be.

The key facts are, we are both eighteen and have plenty spends, we basically just want to relax in a swim up bar, enjoy the resturants, swim with dolphins and check out the beach. We are expecting a nice bed room with amenities and i already know the dp staff are extremley helpful.

Im also wanting to check out some dominican markets as my mother is crazy about hand craft.

if anyone could shed a bit of light on what i should expect, please post as it is my first holiday and unfortunetly, my girl friend is extremley hard to please.

many thanks,

Anth Peacock

:D just got back last week, the hotel is great no sicknesss that we could see. the sports beach is a very quiet beach ,the sea not so good need water shoes but the beach is ideal for relaxing and sun bathing. the pool with the swim up bar is brilliant, ask for one of tullies margaritas, but only the one. don't know about markets as we never saw any. there is a carribian street between the hotels but it is very pricey. also try the monster truck safari trip.best day out we had. the rooms are nice mini bar and 4 one litre optics in room. the night time entertainment is not bad ,grease ,micheal jackson show, things like that . we had a great time here nothing too much trouble for the staff. great animaction team, look out for donkey and elvis. hope this helps a little ,enjoy

shilo,
Would be great if you could post a review, there are still people worrying about the sickness thing. Glad to here that you never encountered any illness whilst you were there.

Hi there

i came back from the Riu Mambo last week and there is definitely no viruses there at all. We had the best time, everyone is so friendly and very happy all the time there its a different world. We did not see anyone sick in any three of the hotels there - its one of the cleanest I have ever stayed in as they are constantly cleaning everything even the loos when you have been in. If anyone is sick it will be because its sooo hot over there so drink plenty!!!

Dont' worry you will have a fantastic time.

The casino at the bachata has 2 roulette wheels, 3 blackjack tables and 1 caribbean poker table and a lot of fruit machines.
You can play in either pesos or dollars - but what ever you play in is what your winnings are paid in - so if you win big using pesos you will be stuck with them.
When betting in pesos the minimum bet is less than the minimum bet in dollars

This post is for all those who have booked the Riu Bachata and are now worried after hearing reports about viruses etc... I was in the same position in August - worrying and hoping that I wasnt wasting my money - but theres absolutely no need to worry!!!!
The hotel is fantastic - it was 2 weeks of bliss and couldnt have been any better. The rooms are great, the all inclusive is amazing with everything you want whenever you want, the scenery is beautiful, the staff are some of the friendliest ive ever seen and the food is excellent!! The hotel is spotless and I never had any doubts over hygene and standards.
Yes they did have some problems a few months ago but there is nothing to worry about now - so dont panic and look forward to it!! I'd go back there tomorrow if I could - if only!

I have booked for the Riu Bachata in August and was wondering if anyone could help with the following.

Can you obtain the entry Visa by post or do you have to travel to the Embassy in London.

What is the night time entertainment like for a 15 year old and two 17 year olds.

Is it safe to wander between the three Riu hotels at night.

As you can guess its my first visit to the Carribean so any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks

It is perfectly safe to wander between the 3 Riu's at night, there is a well lit path along the front of all the hotel areas next to the beach.
As far as entertainment goes for teenagers, there is nothing specific for that age group, overall the entertainment was slighty higher standard than we have seen at many European hotels and with having the choice of three hotels if you don't like the entertainment at one then you walk to another.
There is a pool room at Caribbean St (between Bachata & Merengue).
My wife and I are returning to the Riu Merengue the last week of August, we were there last year and couldn't fault it, if you want any more info etc feel free to PM me.

Anybody thinking of going here, bit of advice DONT BOTHER! there is no way that this is anywhere near a 5* or even a 4* hotel or resort and in my experience there is a lot of better hotels around with a lot shorter flight time. I would rate this hotel as a 3Star+ at the most!!! anyone with any questions I will answer with an honest un-biased opinion as I came back yesterday!!!!!!

Everyone likes different things. We stayed in the Bachata in Feb 05 and thought it was great! We are returning this year in a group of 27 people, everyone is really looking forward to it.

Hi Benjo,
Forgot to add, I hope you will submit a review it will make interesting reading to see why you rated the Bachata so low.
