My partner and I are going on our honeymon in May and stopping at the Riu Tequila in Playa Del Carmen. I have more than just a slight aversion to insects and have been very silly and scared myself by googling it! I have read that there are wild tarantulas and that scorpions like to drop from your bedroom ceilings!
In the interest of not ruining the honeymoon for my partner! could people please let me know if it is really this bad, especially at and around the Riu Tequila.
Thanks a VERY frightened bride to be.
I am scared silly of all creepy crawlies. There were a couple of cockroaches about and a couple of black and white flying beetles one day on the beach. That's all. I don't remember seeing any spiders at all - never mind tarantulas and certainly no scorpions.
Denny
On my last trip to Playa del Carmen i saw 1 tarantula and i was looking really hard to try and find them and other interesting insects.
It was off the beaten path in the jungle and it couldnt get away fast enough.
As for scorpions dropping from the ceiling-nonsense
You will have no problems-trust me
Don't listen to the horror stories of scorpions and creepy crawlies in the room. The rooms are spotless and well cared for. Please don't worry anymore, I'm sure you'll have a ball. All the best for the wedding!
Don't forget to have a read through the reviews...

Any feedback if so peeps would be greatly appreciated. We go 6 weeks this weekend and counting.......
Thanks in advance

I did hear of more animals being seen at the back of the hotel by the golf course so i emailed the hotel requesting a pool view room and i was given one no problem.
By the way my husband wasn't biten at all, so i suppose the mossies just like some more than others

Didn't have one bite at the Tequila, bu there were mossies around the beach area at night. Yes there are some unusual animals about but they take no notice of you, and just go about their business. We spent some time on the balcony watching them, they were beautiful. PS None came anywhere near the rooms. You'll have a fantastic time at the Tequila - it's a wonderful hotel.
We stayed at the Iberostar and I don't recall seeing anything in the way of creepy crawlies and I am a real arachnophobe (?spelling!!) I don't think we even got many mossie bites. It is a lovely place, you will have a fantastic time-enjoy
My new wife and i are visiting the Tequila in March also (for our long awaited honeymoon) and we are very happy with the reports we've read but would be greatfull of any reviews from recent visitors (since the revamps).
Hi peeps
Just put a review up about the refurbishments. Look at the hotel reviews.
Returned from this lovely hotel on 23/3/09. Will put review on asap for all to see. Would I go back .......most definately.
