Thinking of doing fly drive in mid april and was wondering if it is possible at that time of year. will be it still be snowing/roads blocked
etc.
The main interstate highways should be clear. However, it is possible that secondary roads may not be open. It really depends on your itinerary and the weather. There have been some unusual late season storms in the Rockies. Also the Rocky Mountains traverse several states and conditions can vary considerably.
Be alert to the weather broadcasts and take them very seriously. I was caught in a snowstorm west of Denver on the interstate and can say that it was not a pleasant experience expecially when 18 wheel gasoline tankers are sliding past you and you cannot even see the road!
