Hubbie and I are looking into the possibility of doing a round the world trip in October 2007. Our ideal stop-off points would be Las Vegas, Hawaii or Fiji, Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns and back via Hong Kong and/or Dubai.
We did a similar trip a few years ago using Virgin Holidays but it was very expensive, so this time we're going to look into booking it all ourselves.
I'm okay with booking the accomodation, but I don't know where to start re-booking the flights. Has anyone got any advice, e.g. where to book the flights / can we travel anywhere or are we restricted to certain airlines/destinations?
Many thanks in advance

You wont be able to get availability till around november of this year, as flights are loaded 11 months in advance.
The Escapade, Oneworld Explorer or the Star Alliance RTW tickets are the best bet, available from specialist's like You wont be able to get availability till around november of this year, as flights are loaded 11 months in advance.
I have a dilemma. We are thinking of doing 'round the world trip' next year but only have 2 weeks. We want to do 4 stop overs but we don't know if it's better to fly east or west first? Can anybody help?
LHR - Singapore - Syney - Tahiti - New york - LHR
Origanally i look at The Great Escapade with, Air NZ, Virgin & Singapore but Air NZ have stopped flying to Tahiti, well they still fly there but on a code share with Air Tahiti Nui and the option of the codeshare isnt available on the Escapde Ticket.
So, i then went onto my second choise; the world discovery plus with Ba & Qantas, but this is causing a problem also as Qantas code share from sydney to Tahiti (Papeete) using Air Tahiti Nui as well, but Qantas are saying that Air Tahiti nui haven't released the seats yet?! but on Air Tahiti Nui's website it says that you can book upto 330 days in advance - so some confusion there.
So does anyone have any other ideas for flights on my route???
Many Thanks in Advance,
James.
Anyone got any bargains with Round the World Tickets recently. Still not got anything for March yet. We would like to stop off somewhere en route to Auckland to our son's wedding for a few days - any recommendations here? Fancy Fiji or Hong Kong - also open to ideas??
Has anyone been successful in actually getting quotes from companies for round the world tickets? I have made several enquiries, which have been automatically acknowledge by auto reply but noone has come back to me with cost/suggested routes etc!
Give them a ring they usually answer quickly and are very good.

Her itinerary can be seen on Get Jealous blog site http://www.getjealous.com/getjealous.php?action=map&go=kathympython
She is visiting relatives in Oz just now but then flies on to NZ to carry on with her trip. She started off from Manchester to Cape Town then onto Oz via Johannesburg and will later take in Chile, Argentina and Brazil.
She will be back in UK mid November for a few days, before joining us to start her new life in Cyprus!

We just booked our RTW ticket on Saturday! Very excited, fly out in November and going Los Angeles, Fiji, NZ and Australia. We are also visiting Las Vegas (by land) and travelling NZ, which we did earlier this year. Are going to Australia on Working Holiday programme so we can stay for a year (or 2 if we do the rural work) but our RTW ticket couldn't get us as far as Oz due to the stops we had already made, therefore we have booked a cheap Pacific Blue flight to get us there. We paid £677 & tax for each ticket, which is a Qantas RTW but uses BA and Pacific Air as it's codeshare flights.
If you dont already hold one - make sure you get a Frequent Flyer with one of the "One World " airlines. You should get a good few thousand miles for that trip.

I am already a Qantas frequent flyer from our trip at the end of last year/beginning of this year. Currently have 36000 points, so as this is a Qantas RTW ticket I will be able to add my frequent flyer number on to this ticket hopefully.
Girlingreen, your trip sounds fantastic, could I ask where you booked it ?
We have a travel agent near us on the south coast who we have used before for Australia/NZ trips and he is just fantastic, could never recommend him highly enough. You feel like you are an actual person, not just a number of a plane seat. They use the operator Travel 2 for bookings. I am happy to PM the details to you if you would like?
Thanks for the offer of the pm, I am not in the market for a round the world trip but I hope to one day.Spain is the main place we visit at the moment but we love it.
Thank you for sharing yours with us and have a fantastic time

Edinburgh - London - Hong Kong - Sydney - Auckland - Los Angeles - London- Edinburgh
There are a lot of companies that adverise fantastic prices but only 2 (I could find that you can book online after checking prices)
1. Air New Zealand
2. Oneworld ( via BA website)
The Air New Zealand quote was £800 cheaper than the Oneworld for exactly the same trip.
Seems strange - would I get it any cheaper anywhere else
Am not too sure why you have a 800 pound difference in using same flights unless the majority of your flights are on Air New Zealand and they are offering a better "rate" than via BA web site - it quite often happens. Rememeber though RTW tickets can fluctuate almost on a dily basis.

I have searched the forum for relevant threads but found none.
I would ask for advise on a CHEAP round the world flight but i seems to be having trouble even FINDING one.
So your assistance would be greatly appreciated
Route is:
London
New Zealand
Bali
Costa Rica
Ecuador
Los Angelas
New York
London
5-6 stops over 4 continents.
To clarify. I am having trouble finding a round the world flight for my route. Do you know of any?
Thanks,
Josh
The crucial problem you have is crossing the Pacific, because as far as I know only LAN Chile do that (to South America)
If we straighten your route out a bit it becomes a bit more straight forward, you should be able to get a Oneworld ticket that covers everything but the stop in Costa Rica. It is going to be virtually impossible to get that included because you will probably not get a direct flight from Quito - Costa Rica with a RTW carrier.
London - Bali via Singapore (Qantas)
Bali - Auckland via Sydney (Qantas)
Auckland - Santiago (Lan Chile)
Santiago - Quito (Lan Chile)
Quito - LA (American Airlines)
LA - New York (American Airlines)
New York - London (BA)
If you go to the oneworld site they have a route planner
