In a few weeks we are going to Marti Myra resort in Kemer. The lounge, bar and restaurants are non-smoking. However, the hotel guests are 90% Russian. I have been told that they can be rude and arrogant, does anyone know if they adhere to the no smoking rule and the staff turn a blind eye, has anyone experienced a similar resort?
Thanks, awdrgyjo
We have holidayed in bulgaria in a predominantley russian hotel, there were only around 6 other british guests here along with some latvians and lithuanians who might i add were lovely. However the russians in general with the odd exception, were to be blunt awful, they were rude, arrogant and very, very unfriendly. We decided to put all this behind us and tried not to judge a nation by a charmless few (although they completley ruined our holiday)and booked for sharm ,other guests at our hotel were coming back from boat trips and shopping trips with many tales of rude russians one girl came back in tears because a gang of young russian women(who are usually very very skinny) were pointing at her and sniggering at her and puffing their cheeks out as if to say she was fat,for the entire duration of a boat trip.We travelled to tunisia last year again the tunisian hotel said the russian guests were rude and that some had "broke" the hotel during a medical seminar earlier that year.I have lithuanian, slovakian and polish friends here in england and they too are quite negative about the russians i know that there are good and bad people in every country but i could honestley say if the area of turkey i visit was to become a mainly russian resort then i would not go anymore.I am sure however the staff at your hotel will more than compensate as we know the turks are very very friendly
They seem to be relentlessly marching across Europe/Sharm etc taking over occupancy in AI hotels. So if your hotel isn't AI you should be OK and get a much more multicultrual experience rather than a monocultural one. They also seem to go in a hotel on day one and not leave till day 14, which tends not to do much for the economys of the Countrys the visit.
In may when we were going to the loo they dont believe in queuing they tried to push in, they are so rude, also they are rude to the shop keepers, we were told by a friend of our that they think that all inclusive means they can help them selves to what is in the shops
It makes me laugh, if they do venture out from their AI hotels they stare at the food people are eating when walking past restaurants. It really winds my husband up. Heard once of a group who went on a boat trip and drank loads all day. When it came to the end of the trip they refused the bill stating they were All Inclusive. The police had to go to their hotel as they marched off without paying. Its not fair on the people who are trying to make a living when they have people trying to rip them off and being downrite rude in the process. Had a week in Crete in May and booked a boat trip to Spinalonga. The boat was full of Russians who just took over, pushing and shoving and so loud. really spoiled our day. Some tour reps take trips just for Russians, Wonder why
the arrivals was packed with, for want a better word - hooligans! they were blooming awful - shouting, making nuisances of themselves, barging past people - just plain awful
the first day we were in resort we did a turkish bath, we shared our sauna with a family of russians - the eldest lad obviously spoke english and it was like he was translating to his parents everything we were saying - i say this because when i said "them russians at the airport yesterday were ignorant *****" the mother looked at me with such venom i thought she would bite
we had the unfortunate experience of having a large group of them on a boat trip about 4 years ago. as previous post they literally overtook the boat, demanding drinks and refusing to pay - they were all AI too!
I was sat in turunc once and two of them came up to me as if to say "i want your seat" we ignored them and they spat on the floor, there was no way i was moving then
we also experienced this in bulgaria at breakfast if we sat on a table they wanted they stood and stared and beckoned for us to move!!!!!i must add though at our hotel there was a young lad and his friend who had travelled around and spoke english and they sat with us most nights at the bar and were great.I have also met a man from vladivostock (who was also well travelled and spoke english) in marmaris,he reasoned that the reason why many of his fellow russians were surly was that travel was a new thing in his country due to previous economic difficulties and visa restrictions and that the moscovites in particular are known for their rudeness, and not all his fellow countrymen were rude and unfriendly the same as all brits are not agressive louts. However theese two chance aquaintances are to me an exception to the rule and am yet to be convinced. The women who holiday (usually in twos) in marmaris and icmeler are a bloody nightmare, smug is an understatement, plus they are in general around 5"9 ,8 stone wet through and very very pretty ,which makes me feel a lot better about myself lol Has anyone seen them when they are taking each others pictures it borders on soft porn some of the ridiculous poses they strike i have actually witnessed a young girl with who i presume were her parents with her legs draped round her fathers neck wearing a thong bikini i kid you not. They should have kept that bloody iron curtain drawn (am i allowed to say that lol)
You get good and bad in all nationalities, granted - but from chatting to various Turkish friends, the Russians certainly aren't among the most popular there!
Thank you everyone for your replies. Is there anyone who has seen a Russian break the non-smoking rule?
Never stayed in their company long enough to find out it would not suprise me if they break the rules
Goodness I had no idea they were so bad.
At one of the food counters one morning, there was one particular pleasant Russian who was stood in the way of everything so I just gently tapped him on his shoulder to get his attention so another girl could get to the food (she had been dancing round him for about 5 mins trying to reach over!) When he turned round his look said he wanted to kill me (honestly) I told my husband the Russian Mafia may be paying a visit to our room (ha-ha) He then proceeded to to be extremely rude to the server, he ordered a fried egg then complained when he got it as said he wanted an omlette now. The poor server did not know what to do, he just kept saying this is what you requested. In the end he said something in Russian (probably swore) and then said forget it and walked off. I then used some swear words of my own to describe him to the delight of the server.
There was nearly a fight over a sunbed one day with some of the Russians and a poor French chap. I kid you not, punches were thrown put not landed while everyone was shouting to pack it in. They were extremely loud around the pool. This was the first week we were there as there was a Russian wedding taking place and the group for this was massive (all walking round with matching T-shirts with the Bride and Groom on, ugh!)
I certainly would not want to be on a trip with them!
in queuing for drinks, barge to front.
One kept getting that pi**ed,the security had to remove him time
after time, one day he wanted to fight everybody, they chucked
him out of the hotel.
Before I book my holidays I always try to find out if the hotel has Russian guests. The Nergis Beach is full of them.I find them the most ignorant nation I have encountered. The turks dont like them either
