Just a little information on this Thomson Platinum Hotel in Sa Coma.
We were in neighbouring Cala Bona a couple of weeks ago and as we were due to be going to the Sa Coma Playa in May we went and took a look.
We had driven through Sa Coma on a previous occasion and were not too impressed then but booked the Sa Coma Playa (independantly - not a package) on the strength of the reviews and the fact that it was a Platinum hotel.
We were very dismayed to see that immediately behind the hotel there appears to be a couple of apartment blocks/hotels going up. Quite a few of the hotel rooms overlook this building site. We were told that work has to stop by May but with the best will in the world it will not be finished.
We emailed the hotel and they said they would do their best to put us in a room away from the site - we were not convinced and decided to cancel and go elsewhere.
Sa Coma has a lovely beach but the rest of the resort leaves a lot to be desired - ok so this was low season but it looked untidy then - not sure how it would look in the peak season.
The Sa Coma Playa is a large hotel but does look very dated - not sure when it was built but it does appear to be showing its age. It is also part of the Protur Hotels Sa Coma Resort - there are a number of apartments/aparthotels surrounding the Playa - I can imagine in high season it is very, very busy and parking might be at a premium. I imagine also that guests can use the facilities of any of the complexes.
This is not to put people off, as I said the Sa Coma Playa gets good reviews but it is just to forewarn guests about the building work.

Hi Pippa. We visited Sa Coma during October half term last year and stayed at the Safari Park apartments (also owned by Protur). We didnt find parking a problem in the car park opposite both the Safari Park and Sa Coma Playa but dont know what it would be like in July/August. We really enjoyed Sa Coma not just for the lovely beach but thought it was safe for the children (ages from 15 down to 9) In the evening they sometimes walked back to the apartments before us and I felt they were completely safe (I dont think you can say that about some resorts). I think some of the building work is for private apartments and possibly a hotel/apartment. I've looked at various web sites and Sa Coma gets lots of good reviews. By the way, where have you decided to stay?
I agree with you that Sa Coma has a lovely beach and the resort as a whole is ideal for children. But as we have no children - it is probably not quite what we were looking for.
